well i do recommend some of Arcam and Cyrus dvd players - majority of the stuff gets bloody good reviews, but then again they will set you back anything from 700 quid to a grand or so 
tbh mate, you really need to set yourself a budget and then do some review looking 
but for around 200 quid mark, then a cambridge audio dvd players are pretty good. Got one here that cost 350 quid, image is perfect and the sound isnt too shite either plus it plays bloody everything straight out of the box inc being multi-region etc etc

all dvd players can do dolby digital, considering you connect it to an external AV amp 
but if you mean ones with speakers and built in cack, then go down to dixions or something mate and get an assistant to sell you something pap 
but if you want to play with the better quality stuff, then like i say cambridge audio dvd players are alright Have a butchers in your local richer sounds mate, see what they offer for around your budget then do some internet review hunting on them and see what comes up etc etc
