They don't if he stops the auction and sells u for x amount.. as that sale is then outside of Ebay.

you could also report him for trying to sell you something that is in auction.
your not supposed to email intrested people saying give me X amount and its yours.
its against ebay rules.

Ive had people contact me asking to end early (offering stupid amounts - more than item was worth) but never the other way around.....I would reply thanks very much for the offer, but you would rather sit out the auction and see what happens

sounds a bit dodgey... "i need to sell it quickly"

iv'e offered to go collect it so i can see the condition etc...

he replied... its a long way mate i live in newcastle, sending a cheque would be easier.....

he has an option to close the auction and sell to the highest bidder, which basically closes the auction straight away with you as the winner - if that makes sense

This is the safer way, keeping ebay invloved, just bringing the auction close time forward.
