Anyone know how you go about doing the test or whatever is necessary to allow you to tow things like caravans? I know you have to do something extra if u passed ur test after 2000ish? so as i just passed i will have to but dont know where to look

They have changed, 2000 or 2001. You no longer get automatic trailer entitlements, you have to take a separate test.

2. CAR DRIVING LICENCE FIRST OBTAINED SINCE 1 JANUARY 1997
Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category B+E and all larger vehicles. In addition to the new driving tests, drivers of vehicles which fall within subcategories C1, C1+E, D1 and D1+E also have to meet higher medical standards.

What sort of trailer are you looking to tow?
It all depends on the maximun authorised mass (MAM) of the trailer, the gross weight of the vehicle ands tyhe train weight!
Rules are very complicated and trying to find someone who understands them is a nightmare. 90% of people are completely oblivious to them!

I been towing the company trailer for the past month, braked trailer, 900kg max laden weight, not taken a separate test... this mean I been breaking the law without realising?

Whats the unladen weight and the MAM of the tow vehicle?

I'm not entirely sure, it's not a massive amount... Trailer was originally bought for a Corsa C, but despite it being suited to the car regulations wise it was killing it. Now have a meriva, so am guessing the trailer is well within the cars limits if that has anything to do with it...

if the unladen weight is above 900kgs you are within the law and i expect it would be
Too quote:
Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.
