good points:

insurance
can be cheaper to fix
maybe a cheaper conversion?

bad points:

your gonna want the valver sooner or later even if you get the 130bhp 8v engine

way I see it, if your doing an engine conversion, you might as well do it properly and wait untill you can insure the 20XE

thanks for the good and bad points

but...

i see it this way- i have a fucked 1.0 12v that will cost atleast £300 to fix and i dont want to pay that much for 56 bhp!

Good points, very cheap engines, usually quite reliable, cheap to fix

Bad points, not powerful enough, still gonna need to do brakes suspension etc etc.

i have already got spax coilovers so i would only need to wind them up or buy different poundage springs for them and 16v brakes are around £50 - £100, so the only real downside is that they are aparently not powerful enough...

remember i drive a 1.0 12v

yeah fair comment, if you get the 130bhp engine its going to be more than enough fun compared with the 12volt

the question is though, is a 2.0ltr 8v better than the 1600 16v?

lighter block = better handling

16xe is full of potential and can be tuned to 130bhp for a few hundred quid

not sure which I would prefer tbh, the 2.0ltr has more grunt as standard tho

Good point- low down torque

Bad point- it will run out of steam high up the rev range

A 2.0 8v will be better than a 1.6 16v as theres no replacement for displacement.

Its more powerful for a start.

You compared insurance prices properly though? If you phone up and say 2 litre, did they ask about power output?
