he's just text me to say it failed

car was at 88db just on tick over and went to 104.5db at 5200rpm so only just failed

Not really... +10db = double volume perceived by human ears.

i always believed that the dB scale to be logarithmic, hence small differences higher up can make alot of difference?

103 db would be twice as loud as 102 db

Yes... the difference between 10 & 20 is not as large as between 100 & 110, but the perceived volume difference is still double. 2db is not a _huge_ difference at 100db.

Im well gutted - suday will be the last day with her like this... Monday at 1pm she will be getting toned down....

So getting it toned down on monday at 1pm

Then getting it tested again on Tues/wed - wonder how many db's it will be that time - will let you know
