depends, do you want the 8v or 16v engine...

if 8v get from a Cav SRi 130, if 16v, then either Astra GSi Mk3, Mk2 GTE 16v, Calibra 16v, or Cav GSI-2000

An auction

Get a whole Astra GTE for around £300-£400

Nab the rear discs
Poss the digi dash
engine
front brakes

Then sell the rest as parts, then scrap it

Cheapest and bestest way. Otherwise ur payign £300-£500 for an engine alone.

Get a shitter of an XE then, say try find a blown one but with a good box & loom/ecu for about a ton, maybe 150 tops...

take the block to vaux & hand over 1200 quid, they'll give you a new block, head, basically the main part of the engine all brand new & ready to drop in!

Mine had 45k when i fitted mine (96 P reg car). Bit daunting putting a 90k+ engine in it, but worth it.

Unless you put a new engine in it, i can't see how you could do it cheaply.

Only other thing is to fork out for a complete re-build, but then if the engines ok, theres not much point.
