i have just spent 3 hrs locked up in a police cell for apparantly stealing a mobile phone only to find out after spending thse 3 hrs in the cell that the guy has found his mobile in his car they this all happened in local arcade on the pier and the reason i was a suspect for this alleged theft was that i played a fruit machine next to him and i lent over to put my cigarette out and when i left the machine i brushed up against him (not in a gay way) i was just wondering if anyone knows of i can do anything about wrongful arrest and false imprisonment the guy at the police station mentioned to my girlfriend that anything up to 2 hrs spent in a cell for wrongful arrest is a minimum of £1000 in compensation does anyone know if this true

problem is they have to take every claim seriously. however you'd have to prove that they had no evidence to suspect you

well the only evidence that they had was the fact that i brushed up next to the guy and his phone was apparantly stolen at 2.30 this afternoon and i was still in the arcade at 5pm and had not left they arrested me at 5.10pm now if i had stolen something i would certainly not of hung around to see wot happens and they didnt find any evidence on me to even make them think i stole it i saw the cctv footage and they say that i was the only person around at the time when there was atleast 6 other people in the area who were not even questioned or even contacted and they were all regular people to the arcade

no apology but my girlfriends dad is a solicitor and he is int he process of writing a letter for me
yeah and saxo wot is funny someone posts a serious post to get some advice if anyone can give any and you laugh you try sitting in a freezing cold police cell for 3hrs for no reason

i think wrongful imprisonment is £100 per hour or something. only a vague recollection but that figure springs to mind.

unlucky sun, but a bit of light for u. in any situation police cannot detain anybody without sufficient evidence to suggest u did it. the fact is was on 1 persons word makes what the police have done illegal. trust me when i say m8-take it further. sounds crazy, but since being in that cell U ARE EMOTIONALLY DISTRESSED, U CONSTANTLY HAVE A GUILTY CONSCIENCE.
