Are you going to be paying much attention to the decor?
I stayed at Queens in central Leeds the other day, that was OK. They come and park your car for you and a Chicken Curry is 13 quid
Failing that pick a Travelodge within stumbling distance of a good club and some shops for the morning. Birmingham Broad Street and Kendrick in Warrington possibly fall in to this category.

You're easily pleased then
Nothing wrong with a Travelodge, I've had better service in these than some of the posher places I've stayed. You know what you're getting and they're always new and well kept.
You could pay 70 quid for a nice in some old crap building with fraying carpet and a ceiling in need of paint. I've done it.

Hilton is good. I got a room in Northampton at very short notice as we got refused the stay at the Ibis we booked because there were too many of us (three!) The guy took us to the bar, sorted drinks and food, and put the bags behind the reception desk. He came over later on to tell us it was ready and gave us the key so we decided to find the room and take the drinks there save carrying them and the bags. When we got there the bags were already in the room, we were shocked and yet also pleasently surprised

Good service at the Hilton, and that sandwich in the bar was gorgeous (although just a bit expensive - to be expected at the Hilton, though)
