Andy do you know what website you used by any chance? Or could you reember how you found it?
I'm thinking of getting 3 symbols in a vertical line down my spine at the top of my back something like
Power
Strength
Determination
or something like that.

thats the whole point. i've never understood this chinese symbol tattoo business. each to their own as some can look nice. but i just dont see why if someone wants a particular word tattoo'd on them...why in chinese, latin or arabic....do it in english....unless you dont want people to know what it says? which defeats the point
im going to go on a far eastern forum and ask about their tattoo habits

Well heres a couple of reasons.... with asian language you can usually get one word as a symbol and it looks better as a symbol than having "Strength" in english wouldn't it... plus its better that people don't know at first, then they have to ask what it means and you can explain.. a tattoo should have a meaning imo. If its someone you don't know then theres a good excuse to get chatting aswell if your down the beach for example..
another reason is cultural backgrounds/interests play a part. I'm from a martial arts background and very interested in the chinese culture and origins of martial arts. Therefore its meaningful to me.
That should be enough reasons for now.....

do you go up to people with roman numerals tattoos and say "oh you dont look like a roman/calculator"
do you go up to people with polynesian tattoos and say "oh you don't look polynesian"
do you go up to people with tribal tattoos and say "oh you don't look tribal"

on a side note, thundercats wouldn't look that good imo.
I;ve always gone with the thought that if i got a tattoo i'd try to keep anymore i got in the same style. For example if i got a tribal tattoo i'd want to keep it tribal throughout, even if its on a different body part. If you have a polynesian theme going I say you should stick to it, i think the polynesian style looks good, and it looks amazing on the rock but thats because it suits his skin tone more.

Yeah some of our words come from latin.
It goes as far back as jesus/romans though I think.
They still use it in the vatican.
