the plane will out run the conveyor belt then and crash into what ever is at the end of the run way

the thing will take off ....

and the world already moves faster then the conveyor belt ever could .....

so if the plane takes off when the world is moving at 1000 miles an hours then it has to take off a friggin conveyor belt

ffs it takes off end of!!

I'm not denying it takes off, it's a very vague question

most people would assume the conveyor speeds up as the plane accelerates, therefor:

conveyor

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Acceleration of plane

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

each one cancels the other out, the plane doesnt reach the required speed to envelop sufficient speed and stays put.

Buuuut the arguement here is that the conveyor has no effect on the plane, only the wheels.. because the engines move the plane, not the wheels.

say Steve says:
http://www.VAGweb.co.uk says:
stuart your just as thick as everyone else saying it wont take off, it doesnt matter how its worded, wether the conveyor is the same speed, matchs the speed of the plane or is 10x the speed of the plane it will still have little effect and the plane will take off.

People need to accept it will take off and think why it will

Nine pages in and it still rumbles on

Lets put it in simple terms for the retards then

In order for a body (car/plane etc) to move it needs a means of propulsion.

Cars use an engine/drivetrain/wheels to create friction between the wheels and road surface to move forwards...if the road goes backwards at the same rate of acceleration the car wont move.

An aeroplane uses the atmosphere/air to move....the conveyor belt has no influence whatsoever on the air above it....the jets will propel air, the plane will move forward, it will take off...end of story.

The only thing is that the wheels of the plane will be travelling Xtimes faster forward than the plane itself, since the wheels freewheel that makes a nano to the concept.

The bicycle freewheeling backwards is a better conundrum anyways

It could NOT take off but it would need to be one mean hell of a conveyor belt, like this thing would need to eat children for fun!!

Take off distance from standstill to takeoff would be exactly the same....the only difference would be the wheel speed

So the plane wouldnt be slowed at all

Theres too many uncertainties in this & too many CS style aeronautical engineers making stuff up!!

I think we need to see you and jade on a conveyor belt together....im guessing one of you two would develop some 'thrust'

What about if it was a plane full of CS members & the conveyer belt had V-tec

Would the plane implode into a mush of arguements before making it from the terminal to the runway or would it make it on the conveyor belt at precisely 88mph hit V-tec & hoof it over the atlantic quicker than a saxo with an electric dump valve for a nice sunny week in corsacrazy before returning home??

Text 63336, "Any Question Answered" (in itself, worth a thread of its own), and ask them.

quote:
Yes. A planes wheels don't provide drive so the plane would be able to take off regardless. It can also take off from a firctionless surface, such as ice.
