Wasn't the last person to be killed by a stongray about 30 years ago though, and don't stingrays only attack when agrovated. I have been abour 3 meters away from them and not had a problem.

same here. Have snorkelled with about 7 or 8 huge ones just off Sarasota in Florida. They just swam round and dint bother us.
The majority of the time they dont care, if they are aggravated they sting, but this one used its barb so was worse. Accoridng to what I can find the last known death y a sting ray in Australia was 18yrs ago!

I'd like to think for the sake of thoses boys' piece of mind that their deaths aren't an inevitability.
I would have thought that daily close contact with killer animals would be a higher risk.
I just think that there are ways he could have reigned his risk levels in a little without spoiling his enjoyment and the overal effect of what he did.

Possibly, but if he did that I doubt the amount of conservation work he has done would be anywhere near as much as it is today. Plus I get the feeling it was just his personality (i.e not just for the cameras) as loads of info on him about before he got the TV jobs and seems the same.

I seriously doubt it is out yet. It probably will be if they were filming at the time, but doubtful its already doing the rounds.

Ive swam with sharks and stingrays. No problem.
There again I didn't have a film crew with me trying to get footage for a TV programme.
Wrong place at the wrong time? he put him self in both situations, baiting wild animals. It was an accident waiting to happen.

no way are they going to show that. thats horrible if they do. even though i dont really agree with the guy, i still wouldnt want to watch the clip where he shown dieing

He was filming a documentary on Tiger sharks at the time and wasnt looking for the rays from what Ive read.
Just seems like a freak accident that could of happened to anyone, regardless of if you put yourself in those situations all the time or if it was your first time in the water.

He was in the sea though Kerry, and if i'm correctly informed, somewhere near the bottom of it too, which must have inherent risks in itself.
To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't go beyond paddling on the beach at Woolacombe or Newquay even if you offered me money.
I must have a greater sense of self preservation than him.

was filming a docu on Tiger sharks when a stingray came by. Its unknown if he provoked it but it hit him with its barb (long razored boney type thing on its tail) which punctured his heart.
