Willay - on the Uni wireless. Everything works fine, except my email through Thunderbird. It's POP3 Virgin Media. All the passwords are correct, because it normally works when I'm at home. Is there a chance the Uni wireless is blocking that type of connection?!

yeah, pop3 runs over TCP port 110 and they could be blocking it. Whats the pop3 server for virgin media?

Deano, what error do u get at uni?

Might be a case of changing the mail servers

I had tuna, salad and wedges, then apple pie with custard

pop.ntlworld.com
smtp.ntlworld.com

That is what I'm running at home on my PC via ethernet and works. Just isn't here. I'm not too bothered, the wireless is unlocked and I'll probably get hacked.

simple way to test is to simulate a TCP conncetion to the pop3 server.

Go to start
Run
type in 'cmd' (without quotes) press enter
command prompt opens up, now type:
'telnet pop.ntlworld.com 110' (without quotes) press enter.

If the screen goes blank then you get '+OK POP3 server ready' that means it connected OK, if you just get 'Connecting to pop.ntlworld.com....' it means its blocked.

I tested it from my work PC and a couple of servers and it works fine, so its probably blocked by the uni firewall which is weird, as letting pop3 out isnt so bad.

Or I could just go on the Virgin Media website.

But I'll keep having to click refresh to check the emails no major loss, was only to email Lily.

There is a load of bloomin' foreigners around me. The fact they don't speak English to their friends doesn't bother me, it's the fact they talk REALLY loud!
