Nope, never went to Uni either.
Went to college, done a Btec, got put straight on the 2nd year, didn't have enough time to cover quantitive methods so theoretically failed.
So theoretically, all i have is a load of D grade GCSE's, a GNVQ in IT, some city and guilds levels, and studied a btec.....
Just proves, exams mean f-all. Got a friend in a fire protection firm, £30+ a year, outside london, no qualifications either....

Indeed, although fag breaks usually ended up in playiong football outside the room where we were meant to be having a lesson. That didn't go down well either

Uni isnt just about the tits and dicks, doing a degree shows you can study a subject to a certain level using various methods.

I know that, wouldnt catch me coming out of uni with 10k plus debts just to knob a few bitches. It was the whole debt thing that put me off uni in the first place.

Cheers, I don't consider myself brainy at all, I have trouble learning new things off my own back. Give me "on the job training" and nothing is a problem, I can pick anything up very quickly. Stick me in a classroom, especially with an exam, I will fail, no doubt about it. Just don't do exams.
Uni is superb if you NEED the qualification in that particualr field you want to go in, but its not always the best. I went looking for work at 18, and just have worked my way up, ish.....
Had a mate who good good grades in GCSE, done the 2 year btec, went to uni, knocks socks off what I know, makes me look very dumb. He got his IT degree, started working in the city, good wage etc. Didn't like doing IT, quit, now works as a capenter/bricky/everything in the trade, earns f-all, still hasn't saved anything for a house. GF does his accounts for him. He's never got any cash really, has to move out soon.
So he's technically far superiour to me in every way, qualifications, brains, and he earns half what I do, does longer hours, travels all over the UK to get to jobs.
Life is very strange sometimes. I hate IT, sucks like a ladyboy, but pays for my toys, so i'll stop whinging now.

Oh, he also said there was mucho's pussy about, but none of them ever got any of it for many reasons....
So its not all a pussyfest as well. He's quite a "stud" with the ladies, so it wasn't that problem, just the uni.
(Greenwhich, don't go ).

fro - i think uni is worth it, I know if I had the oppitunity and smarts to go to uni I would do it (given the chance again). Meet alot of people at uni, learn alot about how to deal with people and yourself in weird situations, all packed within 3 years or so
I wanna go.

Yeah it probably would be good life experience to do that, but the people I've spoken to that have done it are all in debt and their jobs are not exactly great to be honest. We have two people with a degree in my dept here and they are only on 2k more than me and they are 25......
Like Daimo said things work in mysterious ways, and its sometimes not what you know but who you know.

To me personnally, the reason I didn't go to uni.
As said, didn't want to rack up a debt (DOH, damn mofo D4MO B). = Fail...
Didn't want to waste 3-4 years learning, when i could be earning = Pass
Wanted to be able to buy things and enjoy my youth, rather than work hard, drink lots, then have to struggle to find a job at 22-23 year of age. = Pass and fail (failed the muchos drinking )
Donnas lil bro is going to uni in Southampton. Its a superb course, and tbh, im gutted the IT courses he's got the chance to do wern't available when I was looking at options. Hell web page design was still all done in HTML.
So there are good reasons to go to uni, and good reasons not to. Its just where you want your life to go.
But the way I see it, I can do a degree any time I want to, IF i wanted to in the evenings (2 evenings per week for 3 years). So really, I haven't missed out, as I still partied, just with more money on me, and with a great car social life.
Wouldn't have even been on CS originally back in 2000 if i'd have gone to uni. So for me, my choice was the best for me.

Still hasn't helped what I wanna do for my career though. Still questioning that part

Oh, also........
"Not what you know, its who you know"
SPOT on!!!
I finished college in errr, I think it was june. Come August, I still hadn't found a job.
"You need experience" was teh comment every time. My reply "how can i get f-ing experince if no mofo will give me a job????"
I went through every IT company in the yellow pages. Called every one asking about a trainees job.
In the end, I got a position in London, via a guy who lived opposite me who let me know about aa trainee position and put me forward.
Gawd knows how much longer i'd have been trying if he hadn't have helped me get through the door.

Its like that with a few of my friends from college that now have their A levels.
All the jobs they apply for they get turned down without an interview due to a lack of experience in the field they are wishing to get into.
