He was doing it along time before he was on TV (pics and vids of him as a young boy with his dad, and then when he was older before the TV work are all on the net).
Also as Ive mentioned, alot of his money he earnt went straight back into the conservation work he was doing.

I'm no animal handler, but would this not be the responsibility of the Blackpool snakey bloke to make sure the photograph was administered safely?
Its a sad and untimely death of a great bloke, who perhaps who did some daft stuff. I can't believe that the baby thing is being brought up now, I didn't even know about it before. Its a show, and he's a showman. He clearly took many risks in his life, quite ironic that this one wasn't a particularly great risk but nevertheless killed him.
I'm also shocked that a thread on here about him contains such claptrap and sheer malice. I don't care if you didn't know him have some respect instead of talking such utter jibberjabber about your BTEC in useless stuff.

The man was a cretin and was going to die sooner or later at the behest of some wild animal that he was pissing off.
I'm actually quite gobsmacked that it didn't happen many years sooner and involving a snake, Crocodile or Alligator.
The first time I witnessed his pathetic antics, I said that he would suffer a horrible death.
He must have been pretty ignorant to not see it coming, or just been so utterly stupid that he genuinely thought he was impervious to animal attack.
Maybe he didn't even give a toss.
I took a considerable dislike to him when he offered his new born baby as 'gator bate.
Anyway, he was an idiot and now he's a dead one.
Good riddance in my opinion. I have no sympathy for the fool.
I do however feel for his wife and child, who he has selfishly left widowed and fatherless.
Wanker.
another person with no idea!
Hi wife is as bad as him, both were animal mad and lived to save whatever animals they could. Due to his 'pathetic antics' the world is more aware of these animals, Australia zoo is one of the largest in the world and helping to repopulate certain animal numbers, etc.
So he is no fool, and he knew his job was a dangerous one. As are alot of others such as being in the army, etc. but I doubt you'd be calling them wankers.
Cosmo, i'm not going to row and fall out with you over such a trifle.
I have never put a slur on one of your opinions, so I would apreciate it if you would be similarly cordial.
As far as I am concerned, the man was a clown. He did something very dangerous that was going to kill him and it did.
As far as calling people in the armed forces wankers is concerned, I wouldn't do so, because put quite simply, I don't think that they are wankers.
Steve Irwin however, in my opinion was an oaf and very much a wanker to boot.
Sorry if this offends you but this is a public forum and I merely aired my views on the subject.

I totally disagree with that.....sorry mate.
the snakes in question weren't on any endangered list....he knowingly put his wife and unborn child in danger for TV shock value footage
Whilst his values might have been well meant (and undoubtably so) he turned himself into a media whore.
As for him buying up land etc thats conjecture at best IMO

how can people give a shit about the animals, and in the same statement, seemingly not give a shit about the baby?
an animal's an animal, a baby is a person.

he was doing a dangerous job, yes. I wont dispute this, and neither would he as he has admited this in the past. But he was doing this job for something he believed in and thats conservation.
I know its your opinion, and atleast yours is based on some first hand facts so cant dispute it. But even though his actions were sometimes stupid, the conservation work far out weighs this.

didnt say they were endagered. Conservation can take many forms...from actually helping endangered species directly to teaching people of non-endangered ones. He did all of these, and his shows were mainly the latter.
And him buying up land is true, he has some conservation land which is all swamp. He was adding to it year on year as his shows brought in more money (Ive seen this on numerous shows, mostly not his!)

If his conservation work is as genuine and effective as is being portrayed, then credit where credit is due.
It's just a shame the bloody idiot couldn't have put a little more effort into conserving his own life for the future of his family and children.
A family man should never be as irresponsible as he.

A family man should never be as irresponsile as he.
His conservation work goes well beyond what most see in his 'croc hunter' programmes.
He is stupid, he has to be to do what he does IMO as I never could. But you cant say a family man should be the irresponsible or no one with kids would be a copper, a fireman, in the armed forces.....
