A few starry pics I took tonight. The first one was my first attempt at star trails. Only 18 combined images.

I need to take a lot more next time.

I've had my D3100 since June and haven't used it yet (Combination of not having any inspiration/not knowing what to take pics of, and being too lazy to go out on my days off!) I plan on venturing around York on a quiet mid week day off, lots I could take pics of.

Had the idea for the below pic last night (I know not original in the slightest, I watched The Social Network and Fresh Meat yesterday and I must have seen something on one of those!)

Took me ages to do a B&W version as I didn't know I could not convert a colour pic in ViewNX2, only NET and RAW it says.

Still really baffled by all the settings to be honest, so I'm sure its not a very good (or original!) picture!

Hopefully people will see what I was trying to do and give me some tips on how to make it look good!

just afew suggestions from me marc on that one if you're after some pointers

1. get a nice clean background, the door and the radiator are very distracting and taking my focus away from the subject.

2. try some natural lighting, the flash is very harsh there, with noticeable hard shadows which i tend to try and avoid myself you don't need anything particularly special for it, just a well place lamp could be enough.

3. i would be tempted to pull the pad further forward and shoot from about a foot or two to the right of where you were for this one.

4. i would focus on the pad and pen, but try and get the other books alittle out of focus in the background. you could do this with a wider aperture (lower f number) depending on how out of focus you want the books to be.

just what i would do with the situation, i'm sure theres plenty of people out there what would have done it differently

Thanks Andy.

It was a little rushed to be honest, and I did try to get the door and radiator out of shot! I'll have another go and see what I can do!

Played around with my new filters and remote shutter a bit more. Really pleased how these two came out!

Yeah, the first MX5 pic is good. Doesn't look too HDR'd either.

Yesterday I did a little urban exploration at Ury House in Stonehaven.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ury_House

Its such a shame the building is a ruin If I win the lotto i'm gonna buy it and restore it to it's former glory.
Here's a picture of it from 1860: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8333696/3113397582/

And how it stands now...

got asked to do some photos for some fashion students at a skate park, quite like doing these usually as get some interesting stuff. These lot were useless though, turned up nearly 2 hours late with 3 bike that looked like they had pulled them out of the canal I asked them to get a bowens flash kit out of uni stores as well and they brought 2 really old olympus flash guns

Anyway, think we managed ok -

Still getting to grips with it and struggling to find things to take pictures of!

Tried the first on macro but didn't come out like I hoped. Was hoping I could get crisper, or at least get part of it clear.
