Ah well... thats the price for road tax so just go buy a decent pre 2001 car and be happy with the fact you'll be getting raped slightly less than someone with a newer car.

120 quid for a year for me, happy with that as we do 20k plus a year. Dont like the fact that diesel tax was frozen yet every station round here has gone up 4p in a week. Now paying 1.14.9 for BP diesel

Seems odd to me, why would they tax the buggery out of new cars, but not old ones?

Surely that will effect new car sales, snowballing down to job losses?

Think as far as engine conversions go, you need to check the tax for the car the engine came out of?

Manufacturers will end up paying for the 4x4 type 1st year monster tax cost to help with sales no doubt...

This country is fully fucked up make no mistake!

Quite why my car costs an additional £25 because it was registered later I've no idea. What an utterly stupid system.

Going to be alot of new guzzlers up for sale soon i recon.

Tax goes up, petrol going up, why dont they just get it over with & say only celebrities can drive?

Its a total joke & they are going about this in the wrong way, people cant afford this amount, and some people need cars!

Why not look at the main source of congestion on motorways & im sure pollution? HGV's, busses & other big heavy diesels?

Make HGV's run only between the hours of 8pm & 6am, then the roads will clear up

Force manufacturers to design hybrid / electric Hgvs, or something more environmental?

always out to get the average moterist, who isnt doing anything out of the ordinary.

Thing is though, we're all forced to pay it because we cant do anything else about it, and the government knows this. My road tax will be nearly £500 per year (more or less) on my car, but thats only £40 a month. I know its not the price, its the principle and the fact that the government are extortionists, but 99% of the population will just deal with it, because lets face it - only about 65% of the british population actually work for a living, and about half of those earn more then enough not to care about an extra few pounds going out of their account. The british nation isnt what it used to be, and now is full of people that just bend over and take the pounding instead of doing something about it... and then in 3 years, petrol will be £1.75 a litre, with £1.30 of that being tax - Because the government knows most people will just put up with it.

I think you will find the latest euro 5 vehicles, running urea systems, polute far far less than most people realise. They are very enviromentally friendly, in comparison to many years ago.

Also, If you want to pay nothing for road tax, and have trucks run only between those hours, you will be paying £20 for a mars bar!

These euro 5 vehicles, how many are on the road compared to normal trucks?

Im not asking to pay nothing for road tax, mine does not change at all, i just think its shit how much they put it up for newer cars, are they going to phase older cars out some how??

Must be a reason they are making new cars more expensive than older cars?
