Right, can someone just confirm what Im saying is not racist here! Im having a debate on another forum and someone is calling me a racist

I said in today youth culture a white person using the term 'Nigger' in a non-threatening or racist way is just the same as a black person using it between friends.

I said this was because of black-culture being so popular (black comedians, rap music, actors, etc.) and they have diluted the true meaning of the word. Also said that why, if the word was so offensive to black people, is it so freely said between them.

Is that racist?

If used in such terms as e.g “The Irish are the niggers of Europe” it is not normally considered disapproving, it would mean a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks...

IMO it seems to many blacks "nigger" is offensive because another race is saying it. But it shouldn't be that way. It's not fair that one race can say something but another race can't. Plus, it contradicts a person's right to freedom of speech. If blacks hate it when a white person says "nigger" then maybe they should stop using it themselves.....

exactly my point.

If your going to censor white people saying it in a unracial way then you have to start to censor the black people who are making it seem acceptable to do.

If your saying something like "Yo, whats up Nigger" then IMO that aint racist, and your not really insulting anyone, black people do this all the time in TV programmes, music etc.

If you were saying "What they fuck are you doing you stupid nigger" then that IMO would be classed as racist comment as you are using it in a deogrativly (sp) manor.

I hate that word it has so many negative connotations and basically represents a huge act of racism. If black people want to use that word to show their allegiance to one another then they can get on with it. I don't think they should because of it's historical meaning but it is their choice. Any white person who thinks they can get away with using that word in any context is naive imo.
