FPMSL

Tis a bargin tho mate

i neva sed it wasnt a bargin, all i sed is that i wouldnt of paid £70 for it.

Im sorry but that sentance is just fucking retarded. if you wouldnt of paid £70 for it then obviously you dont see it as a bargin so saying it or not any half minded tit that doesnt take himself to court would understand what your implying.

and yes i am in the middle of converting my brothers car into a 2.0 .

dont people read posts? the car never used to look like this!!!!!!! i was speaking to my mate tonight who remembered the car and that it used to be quite a tidy thing ( although both of us hate bodykitted up cars) it wasnt until his ex scratched every panel, then he sold it, the guy near me bought it as a project and smoothed in the bumper to the wings, and put filler on the boot trying to repair the scratches but never finished it.

My point is you've bought an engine with unknown history in a car that is absoloutely hanging so there is no way its been maintained properly and judging by where the ECU has been put and how much of a shity hole the car is I bet the conversion is half arsed using bodged parts.

You may have spent £70 for the car but there is all the effort of getting the car, stripping the car, disposing of the car and working out if the engine is sound and the conversion parts are safe to use.

most engine thats are going about have no history on them?

you obviously arent gettin the point that the car never used to look like this, its only the owner that bought it and decided to do this and leave it sitting.

the effort that goes into stripping a car??? you are obviuosly a lazy badger!!

disposing of the car??? load it onto the trailer with the rest of the scrap when it goes.

My idea of a bargain would be a mint as hell GSi for £150.. Or a two owner red-top cav SRi for £80..

Not a fibre-glass clad barry-boy wet-dream.

Yes it looks a heap, but tbf £70 is fook all and can easily be made back just in small parts off that car if nothing else. Engine will sell for reasonable money regardless of history - you really think all of them on eBay etc have history?!

£350 seems to be the going rate for an XE..

So looking at about £400-450 for everything plus £60 of scrap?

If you dont mind all the monkey work I suppose its a few quid. Personally for that kind of monkey work I'd want a bigger return.

If I wanted an XE for myself I'd go find a cav with history that belonged to an old duffer.

Theres some muppets on here

Conversion kit alone will sell for £100+

Engine, so what if its shagged.. Strip it, sell it in parts, £100

Wheels have plenty of tread, theres £25-£50 to some chav

Some boyracer will have the bonnet for 20 notes

Give the interior a proper clean, thats another £50...

All starting to add up, and thats just a few bits.

Worth £70, gonna get a few hundred in parts methinks.

I dont deny there is 'profit' but its all of the effort involved.. Depends how much you value your time I suppose?

I'd rather spend £70 on a car I can sell for £500

In my eyes a serious bargain has instant re-sale value.. If you have to put significant work into something to get the resale value you are simply being paid for your time. Obviously if transporting a car with seized brakes and removing an engine is your idea of a cracking evening then its a bargain!

The car was originally from inverurie, then guy in Portlethen bought it , and he stays next to my dads mate, thats how i found it

it used to go about town , me and lingard (the white redtop gsi C6 ASL) both remember it,and it used to be tidy and quick.

£70 well worth it in my opinion as VXR has mentioned in his break down of the price.

i m needing shafts hubs for my brothers conversion i am doing, and its got a powercap so he can have that too, or i might sell it and just fit the vectra pipe that i was going to originally

yeah i dont mind the work atol, as the biggest job is taking the engine out (and thats not even a big job) i will have everything stripped out the car in a day, i work offshore and have plenty of spare time!!

Makes me laugh how everyone who doesn't read the thread doesn't realise it used to be a tidy car (even with the bad styling) until it was vandalised and he tried to do the bodywork himself.

So not only is it saving you money on purchasing new shafts and hubs (which will come to more than £70 alone....), you can sell the powercap for another £50+, and be even more in profit for removing 4 bolts.. Ace..

Then you have dash, dials, doorcards, partially smoothed boot, spoiler, clean up the bumper joins and sell bumpers as individual units for a few more ££..

Not starting to look such a waste of money at all imo.
