Actually it isn't Tom, unless your an addict (like hammer?).
The liver can re-generate if not damaged too badly, and if you were a big drinker, a couple of days off it and your fine again, smoking damage is irreversible.

Pretty sure you can do irreversable damage to your liver and heart through excessive drinking, if not why have I been worrying about it

Of course but that's what I meant by not damaged too badly, I mean a good few years on it non stop will make you feel unfit, starting a drinking career and never sobering up is a different thing I suppose.
