they will know what kind of cars come with it. . . plus i think the car manufcs were gonna stop it, they will prob have to comply with it.
i think itw was more of a rule for older cars that came with dark factory tints. Because the tinit thing is so new the companys are obv still tinting.

Note to all - read first, post later.
I'm quite sure that there is sufficient information out there - VOSA site, perhaps Police force information.
In summary:
Tint is measured in VLT - visual light transmission, which is expressed as a percentage of the amount of light which the window will transmit.
100% is completely clear. 0% is completly opaque.
Legally, your windscreen can have a VLT of 75%, no less.
Front windows - ie. driver and passenger can be 70%, no less.
Windows behind the driver can be as dark as you like.
Most modern cars ALREADY HAVE THIS. Therefore fitting ANY film to the front windows would render the car unroadworthy. If you fit, 50% film to the other windows, you end up with 50% of 70%, which is 35%, which is considerably darker than 50%.
There is also I'm sure, talk of prohibiting ALL FILMS, regardless of their VLT - ie. if the 70% tint was not done at the factory it can't be done afterwards using film.
Factory option at less than 70% would not get type approval to allow manufacturers to sell the car.
Main dealer tints that take it under 70% are ILLEGAL.
Aftermarket tints that take it under 70% are ILLEGAL.

Sorry to bring this back up
From Christina.Joseph@vosa.gov.uk; on behalf of; Enquiries@vosa.gov.uk
quote: Dear Mr Gough,
As long as the tint meets the Construction and Use Regulations and allows
the correct levels of light through, then it is not illegal. Companies
that tint windows and companies that sell vehicles have to comply with the
Regulations. The Regulations have not been amended in 2004 and the
Regulations 1986 as amended is still in force.
Regards
Christina
So...
quote:
quote: Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 as amended
specify the minimum levels of light that must pass through the
windscreen and front side windows. The limits are:
Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of
light to be transmitted through them.
Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be
transmitted through them.
If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light,
then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.
