I do understand butler's logic...

a car that can be stripped to fuck and abused without worrying about damaging the daily driver... plus no compromises need to be made... eventually could be turned into a proper sprint / race car.

All you need to do to that is to give it a bit of a clean, possibly some better tyres too.

I've been looking at it tbh.

No logic IMO two cars and still a student thats two cars to tax and MOT and insure.

Granted going halves makes it easier but your missing the point of the extra maintainence costs. The Clio is relitively expensive to maintin so having something else to spend money on is just silly.

Whats the point owning a 5* Evo rated car and then using a shitter on track?

If he stuffed his clio on track I think he'd be rather gutted opposed to a sub £1000 track car.

Stick to club track days and just drive it not beyound your limits...easy really?

What you have to remeber is having a dedicated track car when you have one thats only worth 4k is just insane. I could understand if he had a 15k road car that he didnt want take on track.

Look at OJC he takes his Nurbrurg VXR on track and enjoys it and drives in competantly and not beyound his means.

Some peole clearly have more money than common sense.

Fad (I'm not sure if Butler wants me to say on here? I'll remove if he wants)...

but as far as I'm aware, since that car hitting butler at lydden, his dad has offered him and his brother some money towards getting a dedicated track car - therefore avoiding having the issue of writing off his nice new car.

Regarding Tax, well since the car is shared the tax is shared. If you're only going to use it for half a year - 6 months tax will do... £40 each aint much.

MOT same again - split two ways.

Insurance, only need 1 driver insured for it on road, at the track insurance isn't needed... Just get his dad / henry to insure it limited mileage 3rd party only... split the cost again.

Won't cost much at all to run.

Still think its a waste of his cup and in the long run I gurantee it will cost him time money and hassle than just using the clio.

Horses for courses I guess

Fad I know where your coming from, I'm using my s2k on track despite knowing how devistated I'll be if I stack it...

I just can't afford to realistically have 2 cars, plus if I used the shitter on track, unless it was quicker than my daily driver I'd wish I was using the faster car... (ojc found this with corsa gsi vs astra vxr).

However, if you can get a track car stripped etc, no compromises that is quicker than the clio - costs shared and a potential to eventually take it racing etc, then hell why not

He is still going to regret having a track car when the Clio is at home.

It's the whole reason I've never bothered with a track car anymore, I'll just drive a bit slower and brake a bit earlier and still have fun.

Thats it, drive within your limits/cars limits & be more selective about which events you participate in & you'll get along fine.

That track event butler got nudged on looked like an accident waiting to happen. It looked more like rush hour 'every man for himself - got to get home at any cost' mayhem than an organised track event!!

I dont do track days but if I did i'd be spending my £1k on a set of spare 18's & some decent rubber & just use my car.
