And you wont definately get lung cancer if you smoke, whats your point?
the point is your not affecting everyone else in the pub by having a beer, yes your harming your own liver but thats your choice, by smoking your affecting everyone else around you, they have no choice but to either breathe it or leave and thats unfair

so i go into a club full of smoke, what am i meant to do? not breath?
You could go to a non-smoking club.
Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with the ban, I just think it should be down to the landlord really.
You'd know which pubs were smoking and which weren't, much like you do with other types of bar, and you don't go in them (or maybe you do? )
I think it's a fantastic idea in restaurants, I totally agree with it there, but in a quiet village pub, if everyone knows it's a smoking pub, I can't see how that's a problem.
I don't even smoke BTW.
so i couldnt go somewhere i might want to go because of other peoples dirty habits? you think thats right?
So i cant step out of my front door due the nasty exhaust gasses and fear of being run over? is that right
your still missing the point. Robin said i should go somewhere else that is non smoking, the problem here is the smokers, they are the one with the problem not the non smokers, your also missing the point that cars are a problem but are also a necessity which would be extremely difficult to find an answer to solve the problem, there is an easy answer to solve the smoking problem
Do you frequent gay clubs?
No, you know that it's a gay bar, and you avoid it, presumably.
That was my point.
If you knew it was a smoking bar, you could avoid it, simple.

steve you just really dont see my point,i get your point but mines diffrent why should you be able to pollute the earth and give people diseases and bad health along with the dirty air.
why should you be able to give off a lot more than a few cigarettes yet a smoker who pays the same taxes as you arent allowed
im not arguing they shouldnt ban it,i gave up because off this ban,so its good for me,its just your attitude towards it thats pisses me off

robin 90% of pubs and clubs are smoking, i would have to avoid 90% of clubs because others have a bad habit
that is unfair and you well know it

robin, gay clubs are not always gay clubs, there are gay nights, my gay friend dragged me to one before and it's a normal club during the week so i had no idea it was a gay club for the night
so you wouldn't know straight away
and by drinking a beer, you ar eonly harming yourself, you do not spit your beer down other peoples throats/noses (i hope not anyway). with smoking, you don't control where the smoke goes

im not saying pollution is a good thing, its not, i dont agree with pollution at all either, but you have to look at things in context, the risks of using your car and damaging your health are less than smoking, it is also more necessary and unavoidable to drive a car than it is to have a cig

To a certain degree i agree with you, BUT banning it in public places is just wrong. It should as mentioend before be of the discretion of the owner, so there will be smoking and non smoking outlets. I for one am not a fan of smoking in resteraunts, not because i am scared of the big bad cancer rays but becuase it annoys me when im trying to eat my food.
But TBH i have never been one to want ot smoke inside, its much nicer outdoors with cold air instead of warm air so if i smoked now which i dont, it wouldnt bother much at all.
BUT banning it?! im afraid not infringement on rights and further adding to the hysteria the media have already created.
funny how one of my friends is a non smoker and regualrly doesnt understand smokers and thinks their disgusting etc, yet she seems nothing wrong in taking class a drugs and handing over money untaxed to criminals who wreck society
Im waffling excuse me

Are you reading my points? Do you go to gay bars when you know they're a gay bar?
In the village I live in, which has 6 pubs for 3000 people, before the smoking ban, 4 of the pubs were non smoking.
People who didn't smoke didn't go in the smoking pubs, they didn't bitch and moan about it, they just didn't go in them.
There is a smoking ban in the country now, WTF are you arguing about? You don't have to put up with it (your words) anymore.
IMO it's unfair that the landlord isn't allowed to decide either way.

drinking doesn't really cause anyone any harm. getting drunk does however. when i smoke i'm not compromising my descision making ability in any way unlike someone who drinks to get drunk.

Anyway, TBH, I don't give a fuck anymore I gave up last January, it doesn't affect me, and it's pointless arguing about it for the sake of it really.

Robin, currently smoking is accepted in society and people dont take much notice. Forcing people out of public places is going to give it a worse name and make it a more embarrassing habit, it will become less socially acceptable and only when more and more people start to turn their noses up at the people smoking will more people quit and eventually we can eradicate it completely from our lives.

Did they lose their voice from smoking, like the media would have you believe?
I've been to the doctors more times since I gave up than I did in the 19 years beforehand

There are far worse evils to concentrate time and money against.

It won't.
I smoked, people telling you to stop makes you carry on, the same as if someone says 'use less petrol' or 'don't drink so much, it kills your liver'.
If I still smoked, I'd stand outside and be stubborn like all smokers are.
What pisses me off is the whole 'smoking is a disgusting habit, and it kills you' bollocks. I think drinking heavily is a disgusting habit, but nothing is done about that, no fucker moans day in day out about alcoholics....
edit - it also kills you and means you get into fights/end up in hospital having your stomach pumped.
You don't see people on street wars fighting after smoking a few Benson and Hedges, do you?

Its like steve said, you cant walk out of a club without stinking of smoke. Thats the only reason I hate it, and people like this old fuck at goodwood breathing the stuff in my face, but you wouldnt get stupidly drunk at goodwood, so why smoke.
