Can't please everyone at the end of the day. The majority usually comes out on top and as 8million people is the highest audience BBC2 has had in 10 years, I can't see them changing a great deal.

A prime time BBC CAR show.
That's the key, it's called Top Gear, Top Gear always has been a car show until it became the Jeremy Clarkson chat show...
It's not only this series either, racing a jogger through london, racing a bloke through some french streets, driving cars by remote control.... NOTHING like what a car show should be.
Everyone complains about Fifth Gear and Vroom Vroom, though the format is now near identical on all of them.
At least Fifth Gear can take a crash simulation seriously.

I wonder if Gardeners World will go down the same route? I would love to see Alan Titchmarsh going round a golf course planting roses on the putting green.

A car show to what level Robin, one you and other knowledgable enthusiasts are happy with or one your average joe that sits and watches the telly is?
You can only cater for so many, the fact that more people are watching it than ever means it is succeeding, there are no other indicators that I can see for it than viewer figures.

I've watched it since I was about 5. I wasn't a knowledgable enthusiast then.

8 million people sat and watched it, most of them as I did say loved it, and the ones who didn't still watched it.
That is the figure they care about and as I said above, if a tiny fraction of a percentage didn't like it they don't care.

I'm not the one banging on about viewing figures and saying that it's not got shitter over the years.
Would you like me to agree with you and say that it is the best show on TV ever and has not deteriorated over time, it's improved?

No but you do just argue against majority opinion.
You are still trying to make out they don't care about if not the only figure, certainly the biggest one, which is people watching it.

I'm not arguing against majority opinion specifically, I'm voicing my OWN opinion, which happens to differ from yours.
I'm not the only person who thinks it's worse now than it was 5 years ago, there's at least 3 others on here, but that doesn't seem to matter.
I don't care about the figure, that has no bearing on my opinion of if the show is better or worse.

I know people have differing opinions, world would be boring without them.
Majority wins here though.
As far as I know the majority like the current format.
Discuss it being better/worse to your hearts content but if there are 8 million people watching it, whether they say the like it or not, thats the way it'll stay.

This is my main point we are part of a car community, the opinions on here will not give a fair snapshot of the viewing publics opinion as a whole.

I agree Hammer, although I would expect a car show to be predominantly watched by car enthusiasts...
We seem to be arguing different points here, I'm saying IMO, it's not as good as it used to be, you're saying it's got big figures, they're not connected.

IMO, the fact its got big figures means its as good or better according to a lot of people.

Our opinions differ on the definition of 'better' in this context then.

oh good god, the hammer and john twoesome strike again, in some countries the blatant amount of bumming you two do on one web site could be construed as incest.
Just because you are related can you not differ on opinions?
You both defend the ps3, you both defend top gear, the list goes on...
