  To think I scrapped my silver one of these for nothing a few years ago. In fact, I think I had to pay 20 quid to have it removed.

I haven't voted and i'm not going to vote because I can't vote.

I cannot decide, it is impossible.

I do have a compromise though.

It's simple realy, if you're gonna buy an S1 it's gotta be a Rallye, and if you're gonna buy an S2, it's gotta be a GTi

S2 Rallyes look completely wrong to me, the S1 looks perfect though. I saw a stupid mint black S1 this morning on the way to work. It was black with white wheels and just looked brilliant. I couldn't help wondering whether or not it would look better with black wheels. I think the yellow ones with yellow wheel look too municipal (like something from an airport or railway station) but white or black is just right.

The GTi looks great on both models but specifically in the S2, those blue ones with the black wheels and white wheels in the thread both look perfect.

Depending on whether you want a little buzz box or something relatively sedate/civilised/quiet/comfortable for cruising on main roads is a major factor too James.

So it's sort of simple realy Jimbo -

S1 = Rallye

S2 = GTi

I'd have a Rallye btw, on DCOEs without air cleaners and a stupid cam

(but then I would never use it on a motorway or major road)

He could have had mine for not much more if he'd been buying when I was trying to sell mine.

Whats your beef with air filters on carbs? Gonna TB either car I think. You cant get GTI in S1 by the way, think you mean XSI, either that or you really are drunk. Every point you have made makes sense, the only point I dont agree with is S2 Rallyes not looking at good. Ive always had a thing for them but it only makes it harder for me.

James are you sure?

I'm 100% certain I remember driving a metalic grey 106 GTi and absolutely loving it, in 1994 when I was working at a large garage that sold ex fleet cars.

Oh, and if you've heard the difference between a pair of webbers with filters and a pair without, you should know exactly why.

Make that 99.9% certain now. You have raised an element of doubt in my head you swine

Maybe it was a foreign market car.

It was RHD though, and was all factory looking. It was only a year or two old and was badged GTi.

This is indeed a problem.

I've only ever liked the Samba, the 205, and the S1 106 Rallyes.

All other models seem too smooth or too big or both, and not angular and aggressive enough. I think the S2 looks bare compared to the Gti, whereas the S1 seems to benefit from the stripped to the bones look.
