Barry no one is saying he wasnt a great football player because he was but the facts are he is dying because there was no way he could recover from the internal bleeding but that happened due to a weakend immune system which was caused by the drugs he was taking for his body to not reject the donor liver which he would not have had to have if he had not gone against medical advice to carry on drinking.

At the end of the day he made his mistakes and cant go back and change the fact that he was an alcoholic but he could have helped himself when he was advised

why would that stop someone having a dig at George Best?

If this was a Gary Glitter thread im sure people would "dig" appropriately

IMO Best is not a legend, he played football at his best level for 6 years, then quit to drink himself to death.

A legend is Pele, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst (anyone in the 66 World Cup winning team), Maradona (pains me to say it), Johan Cruyff

Entitled to your opinion but imo he fills the requirements of a legend.
Maradona would have eaten himself to death except they stapled his stomach.

I agree Best was a legend but he turned to drinking, beat his wife which in my opinion makes him nothing but a coward and he is no longer a legend he is a has-been who wasted his life due to a horrible addiction

Some people just can't cope with being idolised. He couldn't even cope with being away from home when he moved to Man UTD as a teenager, he went missing and turned up at his home in belfast.

PS - I totally agree wife beating is shameful

Bobby Moore, admittedly he had cancer, but its still an illness got the media coverage as he was your national sporting icon.
Besides, him dying is nothing to do with alcohol, livers or anything of the like.

"The former Northern Ireland international has been in hospital for eight weeks, after initially suffering flu-like symptoms, but deteriorated with a lung infection a week ago."

His lungs are bleeding internally from the infection.

The reason he came down with 'flu like' symptoms is because he was an alcoholic and needed a liver transplant.

correct me if i am wrong but when you have a liver transplant the doctors give you something to take to stop your body from rejecting the new organ. However, this thing they give you to makes your immune system weak and therefore he cought some illness and it got hold of him.

so unfortunatly, it is because of his drinking

George best is a legend football wise.

other than that he was a troubled alcholic, that beat his wife etc..You can admire his skills on the pitch but not his life off it.

All his problems illnesses is down to the drink and in the end no matter what the medical report says it's the drink thats killing him...One thing has led to another.

last few hours was almost a day ago now. Should just switch off the machines and let him die, not in a nasty way but surely would be better
