i think i have decided....
I cant afford a 993 Turbo S but I would trade in the red 911 for a 993 Turbo.
Some geeky stats on the 'basic' 993 Turbo
0-100kmh - 4.5secs, 180mph top speed
quote: 993 Turbo (1995–1998)
A Turbo version of the 993 was launched in 1995 and became the first standard production Porsche with twin exhaust turbochargers and the first 911 Turbo to be equipped with permanent all-wheel-drive (in order to delete the AWD, one had to refer to the more powerful and race homologated GT2). The similarity in specification and in performance levels inspired several comparison road tests with the Porsche 959 [11]. The 3.6 L twin turbo M64/60 engine produced 408 PS (300 kW).
In 1997, Porsche introduced a limited run of 200 copies of the 993 911 Turbo S with even higher performance. The additions include a boost of 24 PS (17.7 kW) over the regular Turbo's 400 PS (294 kW). There are some modifications to the body as well, which includes a scoop on the side right behind the doors for engine cooling and vents on the whale tail rear spoiler.
993 Turbo models, because of raw power, reliability and their nature as the final air-cooled 911 Turbo cars still command a massive premium.
min
quote: The 993 turbo was the fastest production car in the world when it was produced, and was the only production car to equal the performance of the legendary 959. It was also the last of the air cooled turbos. All turbos since have had water cooled heads. The car also had brakes that were affectionately referred to as "Big Reds", which made the car stop faster than it accelerated. In fact it was the fastest stopping car in production at the time and was tested going 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds, and stopping from 60 mph (97 km/h) to 0 in 2.3 seconds.
One day, maybe in two years time when we've bought a nicer house

Now you're talking Adam.
Part of my very short, short list of 911 derivatives that i'd have, given enough cash of course.
Btw, the two you're thinking about at the top of page one. Just chalk and cheese massively mate.
I'd have the older car.

I've played with a local 993 turbo a few times around here.
Utterly awesome, it has pulled away from me like I overtake 5 years old on their pushbikes with a sound that resembles a harrier jet
Porkers do only have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty though these days....and a meagre £1450/annum extended warranty.
Nice.

There were 50 Turbo S's made i think.
Only 11 Turbos came from the factory to the UK in my dads spec (kinda).

am i right in thinking the differences between the 993 Turbo and Turbo S is different turbos and a few bits of carbon interior?
I'm guessing there isn't a huge difference between the stats either (0-60/0-100 etc)?

The Turbo S's had different turbos (K24), an remapped ecu, extra oil coolers, different tailpipes (4 singles ones), front spoiler, rear spoiler lip, yellow calipers, carbon goodies and rear arch vents.
All the Turbo S's came with 450bhp.
Most normal Turbos came with 408bhp, but there was a factory upgrade available to boost them to 430bhp, and even rarer, there were a few Turbo S spec 450bhp Turbos made.
408 Turbo - - - - - - - - - 450 Turbo S
0-60 = 3.9 - - - - - - - - - 0-60 = 3.6
0-100= 9.4 - - - - - - - - - 0-100=8.4

the basic turbo was quicker to 60 bizzare:
The later turbos (96on i think) have mappable ECU's so the power is eaisly upgradeable
bit of extra booooost, fuel and a map
Picture it......
Basalt Black 993 Turbo (with S rear vents) and GT2 spoiler... fat gold BBS LM's.....

Oops, i made a mistake The turbo S is quicker to 60.
I think it might also have been a little bit lighter too, but i'm not sure.

That would include my dads then. His is one of the last '98s, and he has the rare factory Turbo S Spec engine upgrade.
That white one above isn't a turbo i don't think. It doesn't look like a widebody and its the wrong spoiler.
Still looks awesome in white

i like them.... just have a 'feeling' they'd be a bit fragile. I doubt they would though... and I'n need my chest wig back to get that (sold it with the Supra)
Not that powerfull, but very interesting handling Mine keeps me on my toes with about 100hp less. Still 5sec to 60 and 170mph or somthing :O
Mine has wider rear arches compared to the likes of a 3.2 carrera. Nearly the same as a 2.7 RS, but not a FAT as the 930 turbos.

still.... mine isnt shabby/slow... 3.0 NA drysumped, 208bhp, 200lbft. 1100kg, sub 6sec to 60 and 150mph
