Exactly. See my point about responsibility.
He's not even old enough to buy beer, is someone who is judged as being unable to drink responsibly really going to have the life experience to handle a focused sports saloon?

Much more chance of an M3 punishing an inexperienced mistake or lack of judgement than a 1.2 Corsa though! He may have passed his test and be able to "drive" in theory but now he is on the road alone, building up experience. I dont think an M3 is a good car to learn from your mistakes!

Not read the thread, but my mates first car was a Subaru P1, at 17
Crashed it once, reversed into a post. Other than that never crashed. I did the same thing in my Corsa when i had been driving a year! He kept it immaculate and full of at least 3 hot bitches minimum. Jealous? Yes
Its possible to be young and not a twat.
Most 17yrs olds would be a cock with a mental car. But thats not to say all of them would be.
Id also expect this thread to be full of jealous comments from people saying he doesnt know the true value of money

He looks like a total cock, so i hope he crashes it.
Hopefully he is looking at your two pitiful cars, laughing away in his nice M3 and wishing the same on you.
Is this before or after he spins into a tree?

yeah but then theres more chance of a corsa going wrong, and im sure a new bmw is a damn site safer than a 1.2 poverty corsa thats been ragged to death before by a little urchin that tucks his trackies into his socks.

If they wanted safe, why not get a 318 or basic BMW with good trim spec, why does he need all the power?

Nah, they dont have corners in america.
Im only just 18, but Im on my second car already, been driving just 8months, but I can say I've worked for everything, Im the only person thats paid for my car, lessons, insurance and up keep. And Im proud because of that fact.
Even if my parents gave me an M3 for my birthday, I would get something else to learn to drive in first, then go on some 'driving' courses etc, to learn how to control RWD and highpowered cars.

Only as fast as you want it to be at the end of the day!
Don't really agree with having cars bought for you as mean more when its your money buying something like that IMO, but fair play his parents must be fairly well off to justify that at 16!
So fair play to the lad, hopefully he's gentle with the old right foot!

Who said it has to be a 15year old corsa B though? If his parents are that rich whats wrong with a nice 1.2 Corsa D SXI for 6months/year then MAYBE get the M3?
I wouldn't want to drive an M3 with so little experience, maybe on a track/airfield, but deffo not on public roads

Why?
If he isnt going to act like a stupid knob when driving it then what difference does it matter if its a 1.2 Corsa D SXi or an M3 or a fucking Ferrari Enzo for that matter?
All 3 do the max speed limit allowed in this country, all three are capable of flying off the road at 70mph and into a wall, and all 3 are capable of driving as the rules of the road say you're meant to without killing anyone.

So you saying if you could afford to buy an M3 for when you have a kid that turns 17, you would do so?

So you would really let a brand new driver with only say 40hours experience on the roads loose with a high performance car?

so if your olds gave you one, you'd say no?
id snap their hands off tbh. if they can afford that as a gift, i dont think id need to learn the value of money ever.
I was going to write something similar, but you summed it up.
Yeah, you may have a 1.0 12v Corsa you bought and run yourself, but he's got an E90 M3, give a shit about knowing the value of money

I don't think you can deny though that at some point all 17 year olds will do something stupid - and the more power he has, the more likely he will get into trouble when he does do that stupid thing.
I think its irresponsible of the parents - they could easily have bought him a top of the range (spec) 3 series without the power and protected not only him but all the other people on the road.
