Your problem is, you want all out blistering performance and a new car for peanuts. Doesn't happen.
Could get a Pulsar. Comes with free box of tissues on the parcel shelf.

I think you should keep it real and get a cheaper performance car to start with, at least just for a year, then insurance will be less because of your experience and you'll be in a better position to buy. Something like an MR2 turbo would be a decent next step.

Yes, and? We've already established you can't afford to buy, insure and run a newer performance car. You can't have it all. Otherwise, it has to be a none turbo newer car like a civic.
I don't see what you're problem is with classics. Take one out for a drive then tell me you don't like them. They're fuckin awesome. Exactly the same shape up to 2001 too. I'd have another.
What's putting you off an older car exactly? They're no more likely to go bang

i think bretts right mate, a classic scooby is ideal for what you want (apart from the insurance part) you can get them pretty cheaply now as well. i'm sure theres other things on the market, but i can't think of anything.
you're going to have to decide between age or performance, unless you want to up your budget

Na can't up my budget... it's not that I don't like classic scoobs, its the fact they all more than likely have been thrashed, and will be on the verge of breaking

...and what will you be doing in it? Driving like a granny?
They're designed to be hammered. They're not 106 tin can pieces of shit. Never had a more solid car myself.
As long as it's been fully serviced and looked after then there's no problem. I'd rather owned a 2.0 turbo that's been booted around everywhere than a 106gti that has been.

Why won't a civic have been hammered? Why won't an astra have been hammered? Why won't any car that you could possibly choose not have been hammered? Why would anyone buy a turbo car with shit mpg and high insurance and running costs to drive slowly?
