A car is only as good as the driver. Give a plonker a Ferrari 599GTB and they will find a ditch quite easily. Obviously NO WHERE NEAR the same level, but same principle. In the two French motors I've had, I've never once been in danger of losing control. And that's when giving it some totties quite occassionaly

Some rarris can be kept up by VXR's much to their disgust, VVanker signs, and middle fingers....
But mind you, I wouldn't want to bin a rarri into the kerb if being outbraked by a cr4ppy little astra (i'd have been long gone) ha ha.
Seriously though, u'll find many people are good ina straight line, look at most porsche owners (city boy owners). Put them near a corner, and its ARRRGGGHHHH
Or just look how most people drive in the wet.
I need to do some more driving, im loosing the touch Its something im doing less and less these days.

BMW drivers at Nurburgring, doesn't seem to be a middle ground for them, some are awesome drivers, others are absolutely useless.

TH, with Nurbergring drivers, I wouldn't even go there. I can drive on a racetrack, but you need experience there, and I can see me having my ass handed on a cheap wilkinsons platter.

How else do you gain experience if you don't go there?

Paul J believes he is an undiscovered driving talent. It's just he has the £500 factor that's all.

No matter how much you go,
Someone will know it better, and be faster.
Otherwise it takes practice, so be prepared to be overtaken loads.
I don't do being overtaken....

Same as, give me a car I don't give a f-k about with the same power I'd happily take up the challenge.
Hence why I'm building up the GSi, doesn't matter if you stack it, just reshell it.

Sometimes there is no choice but to slow down, what if you mincing it round a corner and suddenly you see brake lights in front of you or someone steps out and you have to hit the brakes !

i would disagree totally, knowledge is a massive factor, but not so much expirance
hence my laps have been pretty fun filled, yet not dangerous for me or anyone else

Then should yoube going that fast in that area????????
Look ahead, observations, knowing the road, is there a junction/path/house mid way round the corner that may neeed you to brake hard.
Factors that should be taken into consideration before acting like Senna into that bend on the public road.
JR, yeah, you had fun, but was you "quick"?
You need the full circuit knowledge, what kerbs you can hit at what speeds before it unevens the car/looses momentum, wheres slippery, wheres sticky, ultimate line etc....

mid 10 first ever lap, and from then on in the well known ring weapons of a mk4 astra cdx and a suzuki ignis low 10's as well
i reckon i was quick, as was ojc first time out with his astra
give me something with some power, and i reckon i could get well over 1 minute off those times ;0

Loved my VTS's performance. Mine only had breathing mods and made 133bhp but it was so much fun. Not many things in its class kept up and would surprise many people. You can rev the bollocks off them and they love it. Shame about the build quality though.

No-one should be lifting off mid corner.
As VXR said - Lift off, brake, gear change, hold the speed round the bend, hit the apex and hammer down.

i have driven a few saxos now, and classic minis, and lifting off mid corner can assist the car making the apex
watch any classic mini race, and they all do it, its a "characteristic" (sp) of the cars, and they use it too there advantage
