I know a few things about them, had a Mk 3,4 and 5 now 
Presume you are on about the 150 PS version? If so they can be had for around £8k+ depending on age, mileage and spec obviously. But expect the prices to keep falling especially when the Mk 6 comes out next year.

Yeah your not wrong, the new VAG diesels are immense, although i personally dont think they are as refined as the Fiat lump in the astra's.
The FR's look cool as well.

I tested a 1.9 Grande Punto yesterday and although the engine was impressive everything else about the car felt cheap
