How much is your excess and how much would your premium go up if you claimed? I'm willing to bet that those two figures combined will be at least near as makes no difference £200. Combined with the hassle of making an insurance claim I think you'd be better off just paying him the £200 and letting that be the end of it. As already stated make him put it in writing that he is happy with the agreement.

I would pay it to be honest, for the inconvience that he has the suffer which is probably no car for a couple of days etc. Just think if you went through the insurance it would of cost twice what he is asking you for courtesy car hire etc. Rember he didnt have the luxury of this?

Also some people chat utter bollocks £70 to spray a bumper...what by a blind person? I paid the going rate at a decent body shop last month and that was 180 + VAT three other quotes were roughtly the same.

Just to put it into perspective a slight scuff on my front wing is going to cost the other party best part of £600 after my hire car and insurance labour rates.

Just pay it.

There will always be exceptions and people will get good jobs done cheap, but people saying they'd be getting the scuff blown in for £70 clearly don't know what they're talking about.

Thank fuck someone has a bit of common sense here.

If anyone was to even scuff my car i would go through insurance regardless, bit of a mugs game doing it privately.

I'd be happy to do it privately as long as they paid what I asked for, i'm an honest guy though so I wouldn't be trying to scam loads.

I fell fowl to this once upon a time and when the quotes were in the region of 2k the guy didnt want to stump up the cash so I sued the fucker as he was uninsured.

Thats a different matter, if it was something bad enough to look like it would cost more than a few hundred i'd be straight to the insurance.

I probably would yes, even if I had to make one up, but I would still pay up your guy, I wouldn't even ask for a reciept for the 200.

If it was a stupid price I would question but it's not.

My points have been the same for 4 pages now, as have everybodys on both sides.

Realists think that 200 quid is an easy way out no matter whether he paid it or not.

Dreamers think that he should prove he paid that even though he's doing you a favour.

We can all agree to disagree I think.
