Reading this has made me want a bike
Yet another thing I want but can't afford 
Don't even know why I want one tbh, there's on in the shed that I've used once in over 2 1/2 years, and that once I went out for about quarter of an hour and was knackered

I miss my mountain bike days. 
I always prefered XC and when I was into it there was little options for a full DH bike unless you went GT or paid mega bucks.
Front suspension was a bonus if you paid for the high end stuff. I remember when Rox Shox Judy's first came out. Magura hydraulic brakes were the daddy (No discs back then) and Shimanos XTR groupset was the one to have.
I had a fully XTR spec'd Marin Indian Fire Trail, Hope hubs, Mavic wheels, USE post and bars. Manatou triple clamp forks.
I miss it
