The bmw is a test vehicle, to speed up the training it takes to get their drivers up to a competitive level.

Cant remember where I saw it, but I watched something on it

I think you'll find it's all scripted and stuff. Of course he isn't fed up. He gets loads of money, to do a job, which tbh, is one of the best jobs in the world. They don't even do 'long' hours, the show is recorded on a Wednesday.

I thought it was a pretty good episode tbh. And I found the vintage car thing interesting

Only the 20 minutes of footage for the studio bits.

That's a good few hours filming, if they make mistakes (which they do)

Then there's the car driving (one car a day, or longer depending on how they're 'testing' it), the 'races' across Europe, driving to the north pole, driving a formula one car, all of that.

On top of that they have to read all the scripts and learn them word for word, they'll have long meetings with the production team to go over the filming/scripting and come up with new ideas.

As well as all the radio/tv appearances, writing columns for Top Gear magazine, PR events.

It's not a few hours a week, it'll be a full time job, with longer hours than most people will work in an office.

But, they must get a lot of holiday, and I imagine the wages are good.

Yeah, but I know someone that gets up at 5am, goes to work in London, and doesn't get home till 8pm. 5 days a week. The Top Gear guys will get paid a fair bit (may be more, may not) and then not do so many hours, and certainly not 5 days/week.

My sister went to a recording, she was there about 4 hours.

tbh, they're probably recording all the features, so during the show period when the show is on air, they will be doing less.

You can talk about it all day really

All I mean, is that they don't do stupidly unsociable hours, get paid loads, and talk about cars all day. They wouldn't be doing it if they didn't love cars.

Oh, so they worked 10 til 3 when they went to the pole?

It's not a short day's work, think about how long it'd take to get all the shots for a car test, like the Holden thing earlier...

If it takes nearly a whole day to get photos for a magazine feature, it'll take that to get moving shots, if not longer.

I'd put money on them working long hours.

When you are edititng you need about 10 times the ammount footage than what you finally get to in the end edit.

No. All the challenges are the exception, but tbh, they probably get loads of time off, and extra money every month. They aren't daft. And if you notice, on the car test features, the sky never changes i.e. pretty short space of time.

I'm not saying they do 5 hours per day and that is it. But they don't do such shit hours, on shit pay, to want to stop doing the show randomly.

9 minutes. 90 minutes

And I know how much footage you'll need, that is one thing I have learnt in doing a part media degree

They often mention that they've spent a whole day with 1 car, then there's all the other features they do, spending time buying supercars for less than £10k then doing challenges. There may only be 5 or 10 mins video of each, but they spend a lot more than 5 or 10 mins recording it

A few weeks ago, JC was testing a car and it started raining half way through the test.

They 100% do not record the car tests in an hour or 2. It's a day's work.

Remember that it's mainly shot in the summer, so the sky is the same for longer.

So they keep saying, but surely the technology needs to work almost as well as petrol, or at least diesel engines do before people will even bother?

and what's wrong with biofuels?
