not really, dont get me wrong i love cossies to bits, but apart from heritage value, by todays standards they arent that great, a standard 172 would keep with one in a straight line

Agreed. When it came out, 150bhp in a hatch was a bit mad, can still hold it's own against the likes of the 106 GTi and Ibiza Cupra's which are todays hot hatches.

I have to disagree, I think the williams is disapointingly slow. There was nothing in it between one and my fairly standard series 2 rallye which is a shame because the williams is actually a cool car imo.

Ibiza Cupra's are lame to be considered only the later face lifted Cupras have some credentials.

Don't take this the wrong way but I thinks thats down to drivers abiity hands down. As much as a phase 2 Rallye has a credible power to weight ratio the Clio has power and torque to its advantage.

I'm amazed someone never mentioned this car before, it handles superbly and for a older 8v car it aint that slow either

Personally I think its gotta be either the

106gti
Saxo VTS
Clio Williams

I dont really rate the 172/182s, yes they handle but they aint as quick as I thought they were gonna be

agreed, my brother had one, wasn't very impressed at all, he had a mk5 Fiesta Zetec S previous to that, and it handled alot better and didnt feel much slower. but was alot more driver friendly and better in the twisties.

but for my opinion of the best car for the said era........

i wouldnt have any, as all the best ones were from before or after the said era

can also confirm my mates clio williams actually seemed slower than my 106 gti.

also i think to be the best hot hatchs it has to have a unique engine, not something that can also be found in a megane coupe lol

Most RS2000s were FWD though, only a few were 4x4, I mean the mk5/6 ones, not the 1/2s

I dunno, I just don't see the Escort Cosworth as a 'hot hatch', but I'm not sure what I'd class it as

All RS2000s are RWD Robin

If the Escort Cosworth isn't a hot hatch, then I don't know what is. Kylie Minogue's back passage asides, I can't think of a hotter hatch.

I've seen a few RS2000 4x4's as well, the only RWD versions are the old MK1&2's

FWD (even says 2WD in the headline)

FWD.

Only SOME were 4x4, even the mk6s.

http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/car_info/esc5rs2.htm

only 500 were 4x4, and all were mk6s.

Robin he is mocking you and anyone who believes that the above cars actually deserve the RS badge.

Quite frankly I agree with him as the mk5/mk6 RS200's regardless of 4x4 were far from worthy of the RS badge IMO ofcourse!

Precisely.

Robin, you should know better.

That abomination is a misbadged Series 3 Orion hatchback XR2litre.
