Not every adult would have the same amount of blood, though, so the dilution of the alcohol would be different.

i did ask the guy about this but he explained to me pretty well in a lot of detail about how the body works and stuff

It can't possibly calculate that because obviously the amount in your breath has changed by that time, unless you are caught VERY close to the station.

Well, he was wrong. Someone with more blood will have a lower reading (in a blood test) than someone with less.

thats what i mean, if u take the blood test it takes a while and obviously you will be lowe than when u get pulled, the doctor writes the time the blood was taken and the time you got pulled, and when the blood is analysed the dudes back calculate to what level would of been in blood at the time of being pulled

How would they do that though? People process alcohol at different rates too, so that wouldn't work

well it does otherwise a blood test would be completely pointless, my blood was taken about 8 hours after i was initially breathalised

80mg in 100ml is a concentration of 0.08%. As a fraction, 0.08% would be more alcohol if the person had 6 litres of blood than a person with 5 litres. 1 unit always contains the same amount of alcohol, so would have a different effect on each person. He can explain it all he likes, but it's simple maths.

i cant remember how it works but basically everyone processes alcohol the same, its the effects of the alcohol which differ from person to person

They don't though, someone with a fast metabolism will process it faster than someone with a slow one, the same as they do with food.

No they don't. It's like food. I will burn food/alcohol faster than the average person as I am hypoglycemic.

as far as im aware its illegal for anyone other than trained doctor or nurse to take a blood sample, either way i waited a hell of a long time for a doctor to arrive, and after the back calculation was done my blood reading was the same as my first breath reading

But it's a safe bet to say that 99.9% of the population process alcohol at a rate of one unit per hour.

Nah, there will be at least one fully trained person in the building.

No they aren't. They have to summon a doctor to take a blood test at the station.

No, a doctor has to take the reading, hence the loop hole.

Fancey that. So why do they have to take a blood sample instead of a breath test?

blood sample is an option if you are close enough to the limit as its more accurate i think. my blood reading was 82 was fucking gutting getting that letter back

If you blow a low reading then you will have the option of having a bllod test or a breath test. If you are at the Police station at 2.33am on a Wednesday morning and you choose the blood test then there is a good chance that you will be waiting for a long time. As your body is constantly processing the alcohol when the doctor finally shows up you will have a blood reading which in all likelyhood will get you off with a slap on the wrists, no court date and no ban.

i waited hours for my blood test, it came back slightly lower but roughly the same as my breath test. was told it was back calculated and the method is 99.9% accurate
