you had the right idea keeping your impreza standard and mint though m8, if i bought another one i wouldnt go down the modding route again. Everytime you do something you expose a weak link somewhere and the cost is never ending.

You could still get a nice car. something like an ibiza cupra r or golf gti, i just think you are going a league to high atm.

There's Loads of car's in this category, depending on how much you want to spend. If you want something "a bit special", but don't want the costs associated with a jap import turbo [the three most expensive words when it comes to insurance imo ], and still have the majority of the performance once your moving, i'd suggest cars such as;

UK ITR DC2
CTR
Astra Gsi turbo etc.

Don't get me wrong, they're in no way as fast as an evo (3) off the mark, but they have enough poke to disgruntle one on an open "track". That's what we found in my mates CTR when playing with a UK 240 brake scooby anyway, and confimed by a mate at work with a scooby - in real world terms there's not actually that much performance difference, but the difference in insurance, petrol and other running costs is fairly significant, especially when your younger.

As a comparison a Uk WRX scooby was the same price or cheaper from the right sources as a CTR - you tell me which is more common, and this is the reason why IMO .
