Indeed.
There wouldn't be a thread if someone else who had a transplant drank afterwards, and I'm sure alcoholism and ill health have not only ever happened together with one person.

dont be silly. everyone knows drug addictions and the like only happen to famous people.
but like you said about the bloke who got run over.....more tragic things have happened.

Some guy in Liverpool was run over this morning by car thieves stealing the car he was attempting to park in a lock up garage so he could go on holiday with his wife to celebrate his 67th birthday. He didn't make national news, and thats a worse situation, but people generally wouldn't buy papers if the news wasn't about famous people.
it made rock fm news
i think if GB was dying it would be ashame, but he's dying after a 2nd chance.
IMHO i think giving him that liver transplant was a waste of time and could have gone to someone who apriciated it.
is he in a NHS hospital and still draining the money?

I think the fact that its self inflicted makes it worse

everybody in my opinion can control certain factors, drinking is one of these and even if he didn't have the will power to do so shrugging it off as he couldn't help it is extremely shallow considering current situations in certain parts of the world like Niger.

ah, he may not have chosen to die slowly in the presence of his family, but he caused the problem, i have a problem with the guy anyway, just because he wasted valuable resources which could have been used better elsewhere if it had been known that he was gonna be "ungreatful" (wrong word i know)
other prople have to die slowly in the presence of their families, and they dont get a mention anywhere
my heart goes out to his family, it must be hard for them to deal with, as it is for anyone, but with regards to himself, i have no time for the bloke
just my opinion, and my problem, dont expect everyone to agree, although some do

You're certainly correct Rob, I just don't think his last day is the best time to discuss the merits of ending your own life through addiction.

but hes no more special than the next man
i would argue the same point to whoever is in the bed next to him if they too were a drunk who had a liver replacement and decided to abuse it still
some people arent blessed with such a chance, and it makes me angry when people abuse the gift

I'm thinking Ian agrees with you 100% Rob but for the sake of being a diplomat he's chosen to just sit on the fence for the forums sake.

You don't need to argue Rob, the people with common sense all understand and agree with you, and if they don't then it shows they have insufficient intelligence, your 100% correct, your case argues itself in the first few posts you made.

He is the greatest footballer the world has ever seen, without international recognition due to playing for "our wee country".
Pele himself said it.
Bobby Moore, admittedly he had cancer, but its still an illness got the media coverage as he was your national sporting icon.
Besides, him dying is nothing to do with alcohol, livers or anything of the like.
"The former Northern Ireland international has been in hospital for eight weeks, after initially suffering flu-like symptoms, but deteriorated with a lung infection a week ago."
His lungs are bleeding internally from the infection.

George Best (Northern Ireland)
Position: Midfielder
Pele named him his favourite player, which was remarkable considering Best's international career with Northern Ireland never allowed him the opportunity of appearing in the World Cup final.
'He was quick, two-footed, beautifully balanced,' his friend television personality Michael Parkinson once wrote. 'He could hit long and short passes with equal precision, was swift and fearless in the tackle and he reintroduced the verb to dribble. He was as imaginative and whimsical in midfield as he was economical and deadly given a chance at goal.'
Best reached unimaginable heights with his outrageous skills in a career that lasted a mere six years at the top, before self-destructing into alcoholism, bankruptcy and jail. He was one of football's many flawed geniuses, and arguably the greatest of them all.
