I don't know if Chris_S wants me to say this, but I feel it appropiate!
He is only on a provisional license, I have to go with him whenever he takes the car out. So he doesn't really have a lot of road experience! The only time he drives alone is on the strip!
He must just have a good feel for the car

I've had to push the old girl a couple of times Lee. I think she's made of lead and girders.
its probably all that filler and fibreglass.
Indeed, it's such an effort to get the old fibresports Rattlesnake kit to fit properly without a bit of the sloppy stuff.
Spinners are a little weighty, not to mention my reinforced neons.
And all those subs and amps don't come light either.
I suppose my flamer kit, dynamat sheeting, show cage and hydraulics weigh her down a tad too.

What a relief, a bit of back up. Was beginning to think I was going mad.

Who knows, maybe sometimes it isn't (presumably not when you were running, due to your apparently excellent time), but sometimes at least, it is downright atrocious.
300 mph top fuel cars use conditioned and heated bolt on low pressure slicks, and multi plate slipper clutches, plus huge downforce etc etc to get a good start, time, and terminal speed and are purpose built to do so.
A bit of slip at the very start of the course is probably less noticeable (and taken care of by the cars inherent design and set-up) for top fuel boys than for a road biased car whose entire result hinges critically on how well they do at the start.
A lot of the realy fast stuff is jet or rocket powered also. In these cases, obviously start line grip is academic, as the cars are not wheel driven.

Does he find much money in the street and tend to hit all traffic lights on green?
