 | I built one a few years ago and as a temp thing I ran the corsa gsi 256mm setup and was fine. Seeing as his was a gsi it should have that as a minimum

 | To do that much damage, the brakes were never the issue. What a waste of someone's hard work and hard earned

 | I don't think i could jump out of something that cost me 2.5k and run off.

Grabbed a sub out of the boot and run away, fuck the sub! I'd try and grab something thats half decent, or put it out even if you are fighting a loosing battle.

However, everyone i know who has ended up with their car on fire seems to have grabbed their sub?

 | Just to clear things up on the brake situation.....they might be 256mm discs on the Gsi/Sport etc, but they aren't as thick, and the calipers are much smaller too.Big difference between the 2 esp with an XE fitted.Would have faded after not alot of heavy braking.

Old friend used to run XE brakes on his Corsa Turbo, they were fine for day to day use, but start to push on and they didn't last very long.

 | To be fair, if the car is on fire, and you desperatly want to salvage something, you're going to take it from the opposite end of the fire aren't you?!

I always found the 1.6 brakes adequate on my XE, maybe just depends what you feel comfortable with.
