Good call but check out insurance 1st.Grp 15/16 iirc.
Heavy cars and with 150bhp,they arent all that quick.Alot quicker than the 8v gti mind you.
Nice to drive and feel safe and solid. That 1 in the link looks spot on too.

Last time I checked, you couldn't drive a house. Think about when you're out and about representin' in your old Fiesta. Won't matter what your house looks like if no bird wants to get into your shitbox motor
Been with my missus for 3 years or so, so dont need to pick any birds up
Beside the point mate. You'll miss the envious looks you used to get in the ST, the power to dust that prick on your ass in his Beemer. Your car dictates your penis size, let's face facts here.

Shonky 306TD or Cav/Astra Isuzu TD
Whack the Boost and Fuel up for less than £30 and have a giggle.
Missus's Cav TD is fettled like above, 22psi Boost, a whisp of smoke and off she goes
Circa 500 miles to a tank @ 50-odd Squids and extremely minimal reliability issues (so far!)
Insurance on hers is under £500 p/a - she's got 2yrs NCB and me as a named driver with 0 NCB, 8 active points SP30, SP20, and 3 dormant points SP30

I wouldn't listen to people saying that you'll regret it, well I guess everyone's different but I didn't. Went from a £6000 182 to a £800 Punto GT...
Must say the Punto is loads more fun! Faster in a straight line due to mods (shit handling though) and because it's worth fuck all I'm not worried about people keying it and smashing the windows, which has unfortunately happened to both me and my brother around here. Also don't mind getting my hands dirty with it, and because it's older parts are well cheap

If I were you I wouldn't go quite so basic.
A few times I've considered selling the Golf and picking up something for £2500 - 3000.
Selling the ST will give you a huge shot of cash, no need to go too cheap and basic.

Mk3 golf should serve you well. My old 1.4 i got on 100k and it lasted 50k without ever needing a tow truck, all i replaced was the water pump around 130k which was still the original
Dad get's cars in every now and again which he sells on for cheap. had a couple gti's as of late but they're sold now. only got a polo around what you're looking at.
Have you looked at a mk3 colour concept?
2.0 8v but not too slow, and heated leathers which are comfy as fuck Might be highmilers for around that price though.

318 coupe. Can get them on a 98 plate, and still looks smart with the m tec kit on them. £1500 tops probably. Its not a shit suggestion, they dont take much looking after, and still big, comfy, and you dont feel like your in a shit box 24/7

This thread is making me sad
Ben you have to listen to Brett here! I've done the same thing a few times now and it NEVER works out the way you imagine..I'm selling the scooby soon but it's a needs must for me so I don't have a choice just for reference I'm looking at V6 mondeos.
One day you will be getting into your shitter and all you can think is 'I used to have a nice car' then you meet people and then try and justify that a 150,000 mile Golf GTI is ok because it's a classic! Old cars are old and might be fun for 5 minutes but it will wear off and then you'll be depressed as fuck...Trust Me
My advice is too sell up and get a loan for somthing like 5k.Then buy a decent car that won't hammer you on Tax or petrol and pay your insurance off for the year.I'd say get a Golf Anni diesel

Just get a Mk4 golf like my old one. I got just shy of £3k for that at the begining of the year & iirc it was on the forecourt for 4k. So you can probably get one for 3.5k............ish now.
That way its still cheap to buy, cheap to run, etc, but you wont feel like your legs have been chopped off in your sleep!!

i've got the money sitting in the bank but it's reserved for a house deposit so i don't really have any extra cash
i know i'll miss the st but it' better than worrying about it everywhere it goes.
i only use the car for work and hardly any ''pleasure'' so it's not getting used to it's full potential, which i see as pointless.
plus the fact i prefer blending in with the crowd these days and a bright orange st doesn't seem to do this well

best offer so far
webuyanycar offered me 12500 and focus st3s are going for between 14500-15500 on autotrader with my spec/mileage and i owe 13300 still.
i'm thinking about selling it for 14500 and see how i get on. anything over that 13300 settlement figure is a bonus and could go towards another car really.
so that's another 1200 quid that could be added to the 1000.
forgot about that
sorry if that's confusing, all these numbers make me head fell funny.

I won't be able to spot you as easy once you get rid

Astra mk4 sri gets my vote. Can get some very nice ones between £1500- £2000 and come with most of the toys your used to like air con, cruise controll etc. Feel relativley modern and quite nice to drive.
There not bad on fuel (about 35+ mpg) and still quick enough to out perform most modern diesels.
