If it was mine, and it was only a chip in the paint, i wouldnt give a damm, buy me a drink and its sorted, afterall, the bumpers only going to get stone chips over time
THe point is that you don't know if it is only a chip, that's just for starters.

Exactly, we dont know the full story, this saab could be an old wreck for all we know and £600 is more than its worth!

Hit the nail on the head there, its HER decesion, you hit HER, £618 for a bumper, people saying thats a rip off, at a Saab dealer, probly about right for bumper, painting, fitting etc.
You people dont understand how much realistic things cost, someone ran into back of my mates mum other month, i got hear a quote for a new bumper, just short of £200, thats for a 1.1 N reg 106.
Think if the you were the person that was hit, would you say oh its just a chip, forget about it, not gonna happen is it.
had a man reverse into me, a taxi reverse into me, both times I said there's no damage, forget about it. Some people aren't total dickheads, but other slags that want £600 for a bumper that's not even damaged...sounds like a cunt to me. If it's dented, get a professional to filler it, if it's damaged paint, she's entitled to new paint, but if it's not cracked or damaged, broken in any way...why does she need to have a brand new one from a saab dealer that's going to charge £100+ for fitting or whatnot? Meh, anyway. Next time don't go into expensive cars if you can't afford it, lool.
Sounds shit anyway, £600 is not worth it, go through insurance.

But it isn't yours. It's hers, and she wants it back to the state it was before someone drove into the back of it.

£600 is not bad for a saab rear bumper fitted at a dealer
Tbf the lady was only doing u a favour offering u the option to pay. If it was a new high value car i would only go through insurance.
Also feel lucky the cops didnt turn up as it is more than likley u would have been done for driving without due care

He just drove into the back of her?
I'd take him to the cleaners too just for the agrovation of it all..
Best thing you can do is ask if she wants to get a second opinion failing that you dont have a leg to stand on and insurance it is and next time keep an eye on the road!

Unlikely. How many people would have without due care on their records if everytime they had an accident the police charged them for it.
Even less likely at such a low speed, happens all the time.

Exactly, are you lot completely fucking stupid or what? The lad wasn't paying attention and has crashed into the back of someone, he is to blame and if it's going to costs £600 to fix then sort your life out and pay it, or get your insurance on the case.
People in this thread are missing quite a few brain cells and a lot of common sense.

300 for bumper maybe and 300 for spraying and fitting?
that seems satisfactory to me.
i'd be going to a ford dealer to get my bits replaced if someone crashed into me.
just claim on your insurance mate, that's what it's for.

As Ben touched on, People need to realise it will be genuine replacement parts and not pattern jobbies, and will also be a decent garage to spray it.
She shouldnt lose out if it wasn't her fault that someone wasn't paying attention.
If people knew about empathy I'm sure this thread would be very different.

If i was in this situation i would tell her to take it to where-ever get it repaired, and that youl pay it once you have the invoice.
You are paying her for a new rear bumper, paint and labour! Not an inconvenience charge!

You are paying whatever she decides she wants paid if it's your fault.
If you don't think it's a fair price you go through the insurance, then they pay whatever it costs.
Lucky she's not claiming for whiplash like 99% of people seem to now.

So why should she have to take time out of her life and lose her car for a few days just because someone didnt look where they were going?
If it was my car I'd be quoting for new parts and top-whack labour then get it done on the cheap and pocket the rest.

I would ask for an invoice for the costs involved, which you are entitled to do, if the costs add up which they sound like they do, then I would rather pay her and not go through insurance then it's done and forgotten about. Having a claim on your insurance is nothing but agro.

Right i dont know if i mentioned the fact she lives 2 doors down from me..
She also never asked for my insurance details so I cant see her claiming off my insurance after I pay her the 600 quid, as i never give her any details just my name, address and telephone number
If interested, she took a copy of the invoice she got that same day (no hesitation there) and its from a 'backstreet' sprayer, but they are only around the corner from saab so I would presume they do saabs body repair.
Labour (5 hours) £171
Paint + materials £90
Bumper £270
Charges £5.00
VAT £80
Total £618
My car also seems a lot more damaged than I first thought. If insurance got hold of it they would write it off, the cross member with the chassis plate is bent enough to jam the bonnet but I managed to lever it out and fit a new bonnet (£15 from scrappy) but it doesnt catch so the catch is secured with wire and it aint moving anywhere
the lights have some play and the grill also damaged, but the radiator doesnt leak (phew)
Seriously tempted to pay for her bumper there and then, still not sure

Fair enough, either cough up or go through insurance. Isn't really debateable surely ?
I did have a look but couldnt see you answer, how old is her car ?
And to all the people saying its overpriced and she's out of order etc, If the same happened to you, i'm sure you'd do the exact same thing ! Go down to a dealership and get them to price it up.
