My 3.0 M3 didnt have TC Neither did my mates 3.2 The 6 speed gearbox is known for being less reliable than the 5 speed, especially the SMG. When the Vanos "goes" on the 3.2 in most cases its just the solonoid. there are pros and cons to both! the 3.0 does have the same Vader leather in some cases, but arent heated or electronically adjustable! The climate control in the 3.2 is a very nice touch. also dont be put off with a throaty sounding engine, they have 6 seperate TB's Hence the 320BHP as standard from a 3.2 6 cyl car

fuck, just did a research and you are right they don't have traction control just the US spec ones do, strange how some of the 320i,323i and 328i have them.

I heard the 6 speed was less reliable too, but apparently can take the most torque of apparently 400lb/f odd.
Racing cars use the 5 speed because its lighter and 6th gear isn't used on the track too.

Yeah the other models have the TC becuase they have active diffs, and the inside wheel spins up very easy! The M3 didnt need it as it had a LSD and didnt have the same problem! but when it did spin up you certainly knew about it

Andy what made you sell the M3 so quickly mate?? I'd be interested in anything you have to say especially from the perfomance side..bearing in mind i'd be going for a coupe.
It's as has been said you will like it for 5 mins then be bored by it. While it may have more power and pull strongly through the gears it never feels like it's trying to push you through the back of the seat like the Impreza. Plain and simple for me was it was just boring and lethargic to drive.

I'd go on Mtorque mate as there are a lot of Scooby to m3 owners on there and they seem quite positive about it.
I'd say drive a few as the general consensus is buy the best you can and it'll pay dividends. Also I would drive a few examples as people on M Torque have said they can vary depending on how well they have been looked after.
Avoid the 3.0 as its the poor mans choice

People recommended I went for the 3.0, due to the repair cost to the vanos on the 3.2 if it went. Even though there is a big gap between the power of the 3.0 (286bhp) and the 3.2 (321bhp) the performance figures are roughly the same.

A coupe Evo will be quick a convertible 3.0 however weighs more than a baby elephant.
JR's mate Al has an E36 Evo and in Dartford tunnel and on the m25 there was not much in it between it and Effey's CSL in a drag race.

dont wait its the prime time to buy.
chuck a few £££ at the m3 and it will transform how it handles and be more of an involving drive than the scoob

I must admit i did like the RWD of my old 325i It's more involving but different than 4WD..somtimes that's good though as the Scooby has so much grip it's not challenging most of the time.
Just been looking again and i'd rather save a bit more and go for one around the 5K/6K mark so i get a minter rather than a shed.
Wish i could get a loan and get an E46 M3 but i swore i'd never get in debt for a car ever again.

What model is your scoob? take it is not a normal turbo?
Didn't realise you can get turbos for £3000 odd.

the problem with people jumping from a scoob to a BMW is the lack of refinement goes up as the car can be driven slowly and it will behave like an executive car with all the trimmings and be easy to own everyday and the work hack etc....
A scoob however is a more raw car, turbo engine so completely different power delivery and much more torque.
The bmw will feel sluggish and "slow" as such unless you rev the bollocks off it. You will be pleasently suprised when you do.
As for reliability theres alot of paranoya surrounding vanos issues etc. My Z3m had the same engine as the evo (s50) and suffered no issues whatsoever. As do a few fdriends who have had them in the past. Like anything, proper maintenance and an awareness of preventions and signs of it going and it will be fine. Plus remember while £1500 may sound like alot to fix it, its a BMW Mcar, so expect alot of bills to be expensive. They arent cheap to run.... If they break.
I wouldnt see the point of the non evo model unless a very cheap one came up.
They are imo an absoloute argain if looking for a car that is refined, well built and also has rwd with great feel/steering etc.
Id get one.

Jambo just sell me yours for 4K
I not sure what to do now..i don't think i could honestly get a better car for 4K Even if i get a good example of an M3 Evo i doubt it would give me the same buzz as a scooby.
Fucks knows i'll probably have a New Focus RS this time next month

It's just an MY00 UK Turbo mate..it's in rare Sonic Blue as it's a euro import and they never came in that colour in UK spec..same as UK car otherwise and insurance is the same etc.
