If i owned an E46 M3,i wouldnt care if the wheels needed re-done or the interior needed re-dyed etc.
Keep it and run it into the ground.

I wouldn't be paying £16k for an Astra no what tbh, i'd have one for under 10k though, would probably get 5-6K back in 4 years.

I've just had a look on autotrader at VXR's, I didn't realise they were so cheap, wouldn't be paying 16k though.

from my experience form working in a garage for the last 10 years . the age of the car is not the most inportant thing .. new cars can fvck up just as much as old ones. .. i think youd look nice in a kia picanto or a hyundai getz or somthing

And the M3 will probably hold its value better than the VXR over that time too.
I do see what you are getting at, running older cars is a pain! If the M3 had something go wrong its going to sting you

Its on its second set of springs in 9months, its had an alternator new wheels, aircon resistor. None where major costs, but an annoyance.
From past experience of owning younger and older cars. The 2 newer ones never, ever went wrong and the older ones have cost me a fortune
I am sure the Astra will deprciate, the m3 will deffo keep loosing money, they are not rock solid like people imagine. Plus its done 73k so if i have it for 3years itl be close to 100k.
I want a newer car, maybe thats my problem

I'm in the newer car over an older M3 camp as well Jambo, a remapped VXR probably isn't a bad compromise.
What about an octavia VRS or do you not like Skoda's, you could get a nearly new diesel or petrol for well within that price bracket, the petrols are thousands cheaper.

Octavia screams taxi to me. Even though i quite like the new front end theres just something a bit "bosnia" about them
I ADORE my car. I just wish it was in the condition i wanted it in. Plus if i did sell it, i could free up all the cash i have (in my car) pay off some bills, then get a newer car on finance.
Just seen how cheap Meganne R26 F1s are

sell it and get an e39 m5
jambo we both know how solid the e46's in 6 cylinder format. ok you have had a few niggly things recently but thats the same with any car, my facelift 330ci is 6 years old now but everything feels tight and new, 10x better biult including gearbox, clutch etc than my dads 57 plate vectra, and its been more reliable!
what other car can offer you 343bhp thats reliable and with reasonable running costs? any evo/impreza of similar performance will need more frequent servicing and probably worse mpg.
i say keep the m3 and ignore the scuffed alloys and leather that needs re dying, if you have to sell it then you have to get something ultra cheap to run to make it worth it, someone at work has a new fiesta 1.6 diesel which does 60mpg and £25 a year to tax, that would be perfect

I've only had experience with 1 e46 6 cylinder 3 series and it's a bag of shit so they aren't all so solid.
I'm not sure what e36 the guy had, 2.5 I think, is that 6 cylinder? It was even more shit anyway.

You could have a go at the leather with a dying kit yourself too. Bit of time and patience and i've seen lots of people gets excellent results. Might aswell just stick with it I reckon..go without food or clean underpants but just make sure you keep the M3.

yup anything bmw thats 2.0 or more is 6 cylinder, there are plenty of dog bmws out there owned by chavs etc that will cost you £££££ and the e36 2.5 was replaced by the 2.8 so any example will be atleast 13 years old now.
i didnt mean anything bmw will give you no hassle and be the most reliable car in the world as thats simply not true, there are plenty of dogs out there but theres a reason my alot of bmws 6 cylinder engines have alot of milage on them

Nout wrong with the engine. Solid. Just needs tidying is all. Im just one of thos annoying people that can only see the scuffs and dents and scratches etc on their car. Parked next to Toms M3 which has nice paint, fresh interior and newly refurbed wheels makes me think mine looks a bit poo.
I dont think i would give the leather a go myself, ive been regulrly conditioning it with AG leather cream and i am struggling with that too
Ill just quit my moaning
