I'd go for the MR2 as well.
What im saying is, you can have fun and be quick in a low cc car.
Thats it.
Anals have gone on the warpath because they haven't understood what i've said. Hence that must mean im dumb and stupid and talking out my bottom again.
Never mind that they have completly ignored what i've put.
Im sure I put MR2 right on my first post...
Ho hum..........

Don't be a mug just use the Clio, whats the point buying a sound mint car that drives well to blow all your money on a shitter that you have to keep fixing?

I'd say it depends on other things....
If the clio gets stuffed, could he still get to work? If the Clio brakes down, same again...
Depends on his work. Situation and access to other cars.
If he has access, then use the clio. If not, get a 2nd car.

Daimo I have no intention of whinging and flaming, I do understand your logic/opinion but I think its laughably wrong. I think you should do a trackday in a 1.2 and then we will see how much fun you have spending all day out on the dirty side of the track hoping you dont get overtaken again before the next corner.
Its no wonder your shit at golf

He's a student I am sure he could use the bus I did loads when I owned an XE Corsa.

Anyway, id only get the proper track car if you can properly afford it. That was also part of the reason we got rid of ours, might be a cheapo 500 quid car but you need a lot of wonga to make it work.
Tax and insurance for 2 cars if your going to keep it road legal, fuel costs etc. Even if you dont have it road legal it still expensive as then you have to trailer it everywhere.... The more i think about it the more your situation sounds exactly like mine. I would not bother with unless your loaded mate.

1.2 corsa on track is nothing like 125cc bike...
I've had both
125 Aprilia RS... it's fun as it handles well, has 'enough poke'... etc obviously they also race them!
1.2 corsa handles crap, goes slowly, etc...
Plus bikes generally are allowed to overtake each other on track days in bends, where as cars are not. etc etc
blah blah...

I CANT
125bhp bike in car terms is going to be something like a really sorted orginal mini, where corner speed is everthing, but you can still actully reach 100ish down the straights

Get to 100mph a lot quicker than a 1.2 Corsa though
Anyway.
I really wouldn't bother with another track car. I used the GSi for a track day at Coombe ages ago, and straight away I wished I had gone in the VXR.
Ok the GSi at an Action Day would be ok because the vast majority can't drive so I could have kept up, but this was a sessioned track day and I was being left miles behind and I feel you will have the same situation in an MR2 or 1.2 16v Corsa if you take Daimos advice.
Again. I used mine and Rachels nice car on track, I don't go 100% balls out because it's worth to much to crash but even at 80% I can still get past just most people and have a brilliant time.
Just use the Clio, you will regret it otherwise.
Kiss me.
PS
Why is your brother selling the RS?

you should be able to get a mi16 205 for 1k, or at least not much more.
I surprised my self at the last trackday. Took both the skyline and Impreza. Impreza is a 5k 'banger' compared to the Skyline I had ace fun twitching about the track on shite tyres and standard brakes.
Not saying its more fun than the skyline, but it was a different fun. I felt like i was flat out pretty much all the time.
