no its just a 1.4 but, i like to be able to put my foot down and the car to respond instantly, the other day it was being sluggish and the eml was coming on (heat soak)

tbh an air filter alone isn't going to make your car respond instantly, and i doubt that the eml was caused by heat soak. more likely to be something else.

Heres mine in my old corsa and my mates in his old astra. Mine was one of them HUGEEE PVD cones. Made a nice noise, but no faster or responsive anything.

Actully i lie, it does make you faster...as you wanna put your foot down all the time to hear the induction roar DDD

i dont mean make it faster, i mean not lack of power because there isnt enough air getting in, and eml was due to heat soke, the same thing happened when i put a cone filter on my gfs old 1.0L

Your birds 1.0 would of done it as the cone filter would of fucked the AFM, they are famous for doing it.

Your AFM could be fucked too, it wont be heat soak thats causing your EML to come on.

Standard airbox is pretty much the best against heatsoak IMO, really not worth the £180 for the BMC enclosed ones etc.

Masshoove filter:

Airbox, removed a lot of flatspots:

Halfords special. heat soak is just a buzz word to help sell expensive enclosed filters. heat soak only occurs at idle - once the car is moving the problem goes away.

Race cars use open sock filters or none at all - they dont get heat soak, think about it...

i dont want big objects going in there, leaves ect
It'll be fine, mine hasn't got leaves in it. It doesn't just make one big hole either, there are little strut type things:

On the contrary, its like that because of too much air. The standard airbox is so restrictive that when you put a cone filter on, the ability to breath free fucks with the signals the ecu is getting and the factory set parameters wont recognise such a large increase in air flow.

A lot of low spec newer cars need a re-map to run optimal with a free flowing filter, but instead people blame the problem on heat soak. Its also worth disconnecting the battery overnight before you fit a cone filter so the ecu has time to re-learn parameters with a different filter on as opposed to make adjustments over time. I know several people who put cone filters on ecotec corsas and they ran shite, i then told them to disconnect the battery overnight and all of a sudden the cars ran great.

Heat soak really doesnt exist once a car is moving, as any hot air in the bay is instantly displaced by cool air coming from underneath and infront of the car.
