I dont get why people still go on about diesels being bad! Im getting a mk4 ibiza with a 130bhp diesel lump in it. It will be cheaper to insure and run compaired to my mk3 1.6 petrol which is also slower!

Diesels are dull, sure it's nice having a Turbo without getting 10mpg but they're just boring. If you drive flat out you're still looking at under 20mpg, so what's the point. I had a 2.0TDI Jetta, cost me £51 to fill up and I got 550 miles out of the tank with 90% granny driving.
My Zetec S costs £34 to fill up, I get 300 miles out of a tank and that's with 60% granny driving...

Diesels aren't great.

Diesels are great for cruising. But there's nothing like spooling up to 9k and getting a lick on in a petrol car.

dont get me wrong im not comparing an impreza to a diesel leon but if i wanted a decent commuter that could put a smile on your face then thats where id be looking, if the commute were a little less and you could live with 20mpg then it would be a different story.

i regularly drive a 330d bmw with 400lbft, a jetta 2ltr tdi with 200bhp, they are quick cars, they just lack the nippyness of a NASP or petrol turbo car.

if i had bmw 330d jetta 2lt tdi and my clio 172 lined up and i was going for a drive, be it work or not unfortunalty id go for the clio unless i was strapped for cash and doing a 300mile trip...

I think in standard form diesels do tend to be boring compaired to a petrol, but a tuned/modded one is a different story

Well I don't know how old you are, but I'm 20, far too young to be owning a Diesel car. Hand stinks.

It's called a petrol station for a reason

I never said they couldn't be made to go fast, CorsAsh covered this earlier with the Audis, but they sound shit and as proved in the video, just kick out black shit when you boot it. Fail all round

Something wrong with the Jetta. My A3 has 30bhp more, more torque, never gets driven like a granny and gets 500+ miles to a tank everytime with the same size tank... (going off how much you say it cost you to fill up)

I doubt it, had 2000 miles on the clock, 58 plate.

Just going by the facts and figures I have personally got, I would rather go by them than "my mates brothers mums Diesel gets 800 mles to a tank"

Fair enough. But its still not right compared to what the majority of other people get with that engine.

Petrol station thing I'm guessing came about as they originally only sold petrol? Just a thought

I know I'm only messing about, we just always have this argument with a couple of mates who have bought Diesels as they moan about doing high mileage to work, when they only travel 20 miles, and I do 80 miles + yet bought a petrol

Sounds breathless, just when it sounds like it should be getting going it's time for a gear change.
