A gti will/should pull all the way to 140.

A breathed gti against a xe corsa would be close imo. I've seen many a gti/vts take an xe corsa and vice versa.

Its true.

It really depends on the driver, engine condition etc..

I.e Race a dog XE against a normal running GTi, the GTi will take it.

Put a rebuilt XE, against a dog GTi, and the XE will wipe it.

I personnally never had any bother with them, but my engine was a peach. But i've seen plenty of time where XE's have had their asses handed to them.

Its a sore acceptance point for some old XE owners here

remember, its not a race if the other car doesnt know you are there. Just because you overtake something that is doing more than 70, dont make it a race.

Some people are dreamers.

What you mean like slowing down for a "play", then the front car booting it off without the car behined being ready?

The front car pulls away, yaaaayyyy I WIN I WIN.

I was in 2nd gear doing 20mph, and that Lambo behined me was in 5th pootling alone. I booted it and left him for dead, there-for I beat a Lambo..........

This thread is fucking brilliant

Ok so racing an xe in your 106 is all good and well, until you come to a corner and discover you're the winner of 'find the ditch' there isnt that much in it with a standard 106gti and a standard XE, very little indeed, I've seen 16v XSI's trounce XE's.

Back in the day when I had my old XE on throttle bodies it was - compared to other cars of the time, pretty quick! But that was 10 years ago and one of the first two or three converted XE's in the country. It seems these days though that most hot hatches (even though they have put on a few pounds) are punching around the 200bhp mark!

Im afraid the standard XE has been left behind a little bit! Thats without going into handling!

completely own fiesta ST's and I beg to differ about the focus on many occasions I've stayed level with if not in front of one, although it does have the edge 80+ and starts to pull.

No, I fully agree!!!

I think you will find the 0-3mph time for the Astra VXR and Corsa XE are VERY similar!

Mate used to have Astra Vxr, we had many traffic light grand prixs they were all very equal or the corsa would edge it to 60/70 then the astra would start to gain and dissappear.

Speaking from my personally experience not some hyped up theory...

Edit : xe 1/4 mile - 15.3
vxr 1/4 mile - 14.5-15.0 with a good driver,

Across the line speeds would be around 90mph if not more

so there is hardly anything in it in straight line terms, im not doubting the Astra would be quicker in bends or top end at all.

Its all swings and round-a-bouts tbh!

A local lad, (built about 7-8 xe corsa's and drives them stupid hard ) raced a Brand spanker Burg astra! (absolutely glemming)... His unhealthy xe(been through countless bottom ends from cold batterings and was actually chucking out blue smoke at the time) only lost by two car lengths from about 20-90 with a fiat couple turbo right up his arse.

But then again, ive seen saxo vts level peg with a escort cossie on the same stretch.

The 106/corsa xe thing is too close to argue as alot of them are batterd and running like shit and vice versa!

But due to the extra grunt of the xe, when things get going, i would expect the corsa to keep pulling.

Ive only ever been in one xe corsa, but it a terrible exmaple. Different colour panels, gear linkage shot, hole in exhaust, hammerd from cold every single day, never serviced in years as far as i know. But fair play is still ploding along
