Yeah a 1.3 Accent must be lethal to keep under control in icy conditions
car has nothing to do with grip.
driving on ice/snow with summer tyres u wont be able to brake... with winter tyres u will have atleast some stopping power..
it shows that people on here actually never driven on snow or ice and dont know how different car reacts to the movement of steering wheel when with summer tyres and not winter tyres.

Agree with Daymoon, seems people don't know what they're talking about.
'Drive acordingly'?
If I was on here saying I would drive home after 5 pints at the pub no problem, cause I would just drive acordingly, I wonder how people would react.
I know the obvious answer will be a lot more rubbish, but the fact is, that you can have as great F1 tyres or as big 4-pot brakes as you wish but as soon as the cold strikes (as in now) they will both do jack-shit for your ability to stop if someone drives out in front of you (as a few of you already said, everyone ELSE drives like a plank).

No, you're just being silly now aren't you. You just apply common sense, drinking and driving isn't common sense.
And if somebody pulls out on you, what does the conditions have to do with it, if it happens you will crash anyway.

I've done a shed load of driving on snow and ice. You need chains if you're going to get anywhere, winter tyres do fuck all after about 2cm of snow as it just compacts under the weight of the car and turns to ice.

never had a problem with it. a decent set of tires wll grip well even when its cold and pissing it down. no point in having different tires in england anyway it ends up sunny it winter and rainy all summer. good luck trying to predict when to change over

when u drive on snow or ice and try to brake wheels will just lock up, and it doesnt really matter how hard u brake...
snow tyres will give some grip when wheels lock up..
IMO multi seasonal tyres are the way to go..

Ive been driving 5 years and never swapped my wheels over for the changing seasons. The weather in the UK is simply too unpredictable to be able to anticipate when its going to be the right time to change them.
If your planning to brake hard when its icy then more fool you!

Because it is safer to go sideways down the road, get a better view of the thing you are going to hit
Also the weather is generally the same all year round. And am i right in thinking that we are the only country that puts salt grit on the roads in winter?

When they grit the roads it usually makes it worse during the day - very greasy until the next heavy rain.

Why have "winter Tyres"??
Do what the Russians do and put chain tyres on MUCH better braking and handling personally
But i think the reason the UK doesn't is maybe because we don't really get bad winter weather (just cold rain instead of humid) it's not a necessary and a majority of the time if it were to become icy the gritters are out anyway.

Winter tyres will just give idiotic company-car-salesman-Passat-family-saloon drivers an excuse to drive even worse in heavy rain and cold mornings.
