i'd say they do the same mpg wise to be honest. all i can think of is different gear ratios or different driver opinions

And your car isn't slow! Was his standard?

And true point, didn't think of gear ratios, although the 6th gear should mean decent mpg on motorway

What you have to remember is diesels are only good when you compare them to an equivalent petrol model.

i.e. BMW 530i or BMW 530d.

Comparing a 1.9TDi Fabia/Ibiza to say, a 1.0 Pug 107 is pointless. Compare the 1.9TDi to say, a 1.8 Fabia/Ibiza, and you have better value.

tbh, if you drive your Fiesta sensibly (1.4 Duratec right?!) then you'd get similar MPG's to a Fabia vRS, which you'd naturally drive faster.

If you need to cut down on fuel costs, a small engine diesel car will be best. Yes, I always say it, a 1.3CDTi Corsa or something.

Fair point.

And yeah it's the 1.4 Duratec, I drive like an absolute granny and struggle for 300? Don't go above 2k revs except for when in 5th doing a steady 60-70.

It's not so much the need to cut down fuel costs, it's the fact that I want something with a bit of poke, which considering my car is only really for commuting then the odd blast around with other mates in cars, a diesel seems ideal for poodling around in for work, then when I want to give it some the poke is there, if that makes sense?

I prefer the vRS looks over the Ibiza FR much more though...

Shep, I'll have a look, I seem to remember him putting a FMIC on it, it looked cool.

1.9TDi vRS will be ideal then imho. Good out the box and something a bit different. I'd imagine you'll see over 300 miles to a tank though (tank might be bigger )!

Haven't read the whole topic but I'll give you the views on my dads one

He bought his new (came to just over 13K IIRC (with a few extras))

Does about 600miles a week, mainly motorway/a roads and returns 55-60mpg
Things replaced under warrenty-
Turbo (seals weren't put on correctly at factory, so leaked oil)
wheel bearing (heard of a few others going too)
rear VRs badge (green feel off)
bit of trim near the interior door handle (kept falling off)

he got his may 06, now has about 71k on the clocks, been fine through all its serivces.

Only real negatives-
The boot is smaller than it looks
seats get marked very easily (well that happens to most cars with light interiors)

Overall its been a very good car for him, starts first time every time, even when its below 0 degrees!

Cheers antnee, apart from the turbo going (hopefully that wouldn't happen as I'm not buying new) the other things aren't really a problem.

How small is small regarding the boot? Could you get a pic? I like my sounds so wondering if I could get a sub plus work tools in.

Good results on my MPG front. I've spent all day looking at them, now I'm at work I'm still looking at them Forgot to do an insurance quote earlier though

Exactly how they should come standard!

Another note, do they come with Cruise Control as standard? I presume it's an optional extra as some have it and some don't.

I wouldnt bother with a revo unless your uprating the clutch. Had the revo taken off my octavia as it killed it in less than 10k

Guess I'll have to upgrade the clutch then

But unless you are giving it serious stick it 'shouldn't' make a difference.
