Depends what you want from a car tbh.

Escort is old, itl ned constant fixing/tinkering etc

Astra is new, less exciting but will still have a warrenty and put a smile on your face

My thoughts exactly. £15k on a 10+ year old Escort, or on a 1 year old Astra VXR....

Sure teh cossie can be tuned more, but then if its a FAST powerful car you want, get something faster as standard.

You can leave the astra parked up in town and it be safe.... The cossie????

I LOVE my escort cosworths, but as a daily drive, the astra wins it. Quicker in a straightline too (if thats your thang), and lets face it, £1000 and 280bhp later isn't bad really is it.

Just no damn cupholders.

Dailey drive, astra vxr
Weekend/evening toy - cossie.

I'm sorry but how can you choose anything else over a escos. Just look at it.

Its a ford escort with testosterone....

There are FAR more stunning cars than an escort out there

Out of the box, standard, Astra is the better car imo.

Agree with Daimo. It's an Escort, with a pumped up engine and body kit. Yes it might hold it's value but you don't buy a car for investment. Will always go wrong, always attract wrong kind of attention and always look chavvy.

it infact shares very very little with an escort

more of a sierra with an escort bodykit

as gareth said, and also a few of my mates have had them with no issues, the thing is they may have been mistreated by previous owners (saphs espically) and therefore seam unrealible

my mates, and gareths one all seem to have had preventive matinance, and have been 100% fine

the same can be said for an astra, which is just a normal hatchback, with a body kit and bigger engine

i just cant see how the to can be compared in anyway possibly ford blinkers

If its a weekend toy then Cossie all day, if you still want a VXR in a year or two you will get one for under 10k then....

If its a daily drive then the Cossie isn't gonna work is it

well maintained or not Jr, its old old stuff needs replacing. You will be forever chasing that bush, seal, shock etc

Theres no doubt in my mind that a cossie is the "better" car in terms of a car to cherish, a car capapble of bending time with a MAD conversion. But its an old ford, its got early 90's interior etc.

A vxr will have a warrenty (presumably) and be better to live with everyday itl be more refined and less hassle whilst still being fun and void of rust.

As jr said i dont know how you can compare the two, tottaly different kettle of fish, your best off deciding what you need the vehicle to do, then base your descision on those requirements

Cossie if you have a graage and will only use it on occasion.

Astra/Evo *delete as a appropriate*if you want something you could use every day and leave in car parks.

A cossie is an aqcuired taste and will keep its value on the merit it hasnt been crashed and its had money spent on it in the right places. Buy a dog and you will regret it and it will cost you ££££

Errr, the Astra VXR IS reliable........

Not had one single issue with ours at all. I know MANY people that will say exactly the same.

EVERY car will have a few bad uns.

I know if I had £15k, I wouldn't be spending it on an old ford, but then again, I wouldn't buy a VXR either.

I'd do something more interesting with the money

The only reason people seem to be saying VXR is because its newer and more reliable

But if they'd read my 1st post, I went for the newer more reliable car last time and was no better off, still cost me shit loads of greif and money

If I'm going to be spending money I'd rather spend it on the Cosworth,

Im likely to see more of it back, enjoy it more, and in my area there's next to zero Escort Cosworths

There's plenty of VXR's though, as there is everywhere
